Meet Saeng Inthavong | Owner and Curator, My Asian Dish

We had the good fortune of connecting with Saeng Inthavong and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Saeng, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I personally believe it’s our niche in preserving Authentic Southeast Asian recipes. The sauce and food we sell are all authentic. The sauce we sell is my mothers recipe and has been a traditional Laotian chili paste condiment that can be used in any dish. It cannot be purchased at an Asian store and it can be challenging and time consuming to make. All of the recipes on our website are authentic. It’s a free website for people to access. Folks who enjoy cooking and want to make these dishes for families and friends can refer back to our website. In addition to the recipes, we also have cooking videos to assist. Our future goal is to travel to Southeast Asia and get these videos direct from the kitchens in the villages/homes in Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Preserving authentic Asian dishes through learning, documenting and sharing. As our
parents age, the techniques and recipes will be lost and forgotten.
I’ve always been a creative person by nature. I took photography and photoshop in college.
I love to draw and have a passion for food, art and travel. I thought combining all these
elements would be great for the website.
It has not been easy, it has been quite the journey when developing the sauce. We had to research and learn how to produce a product from scratch and make it ready for retailers.
We learned how to become more efficient by producing in bulk, purchasing in larger quantities, and when to push product promotion.
My Asian Dish is fun, important, and a mission from my heart that I believe in. When you
spend time on something important it’s exciting and enjoyable work. I love seeing
progress and seeing things come to fruition. I’ve been fortunate to work on My Asian Dish when
I’d like to and during my free time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Colorado is known for their many outdoor activities and is catered to travelers. If I had a friend visiting, I would start off by taking them on a hike to Garden of the Gods and dine at a local restaurant or visit a brewery to try one of our many craft beers. Also during their stay, I would recommend doing the famous Manitou Incline, drive up Pikes Peak to enjoy the beautiful views from the top, and immerse ourselves in one of the many quaint hot springs in the area. I would end the trip by showing them our commercial kitchen that My Asian Dish operates out of and cook a traditional meal that honors one of our many childhood memories.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The My Asian Dish Team, which consists of my mother, my family, and the Laotian community.
