We had the good fortune of connecting with Tymeka Coney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tymeka, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business has really been out of Love for what I do. There’s a quote that states, “When you are doing what you love, then it doesn’t feel like work.” I truly believe that. I also started my own business because I spent a lot of time helping and consulting others with their businesses so it was only natural that I would use that same energy that I used in helping others and start my own. There’s another quote which states, “Charity begins at home.” I have always loved creative pursuits and being surrounded by creatives and I have always loved helping others to find creative opportunities for their gifts and talents so naturally I would have a business that encompasses all of this.
I currently have a company called Meek Entertainment & PR, LLC. & I also run a Talent Management company. With Meek Entertainment & PR. LLC., I Write, Produce and Direct Stage Productions, TV & Film projects and I also consult and provide PR for events and to stay abreast of what’s going on in the world of entertainment and with my Talent Management company I find opportunities for Actors, Singers, Writers etc.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My Art/Creativity is a form of expression for me. I am certainly a creative at heart/at my core and most people that I align with often have some form of creativity they posses which is often how we relate. What sets me apart is that I let my creativity flow organically. I am not defined by just one thing that I do. I do a myriad of things and I go where the flow is in any given season. I don’t like to be confined to being in a box. I think outside the box. I am not of the mindset to just focus on one thing. “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” Phillippians 4:13 I am not defined by one title. I am a Spoken Word Poet, Author of 3 Children’s books and 1 Poetry book. Playwright, Songwriter, VO, Actress, Writer, Producer, Director etc.
Depending on the opportunity, I can flow in any of these gifts/talents. In addition to being an Artist/Creative, I also use my Executive skills to help other Artists/Creatives as an Executive Producer providing jobs for others in my productions and as a Talent Manager..securing opportunities/jobs for others.
What I want the world to know is I enjoy doing projects that not only Entertain others, but I want to Empower others, Educate others and I want to continue to rally around social causes and mental health causes to impact and inspire the masses through arts and entertainment.

This month on May 25th in Hollywood, I am Writing, Producing & Directing, “Simply The Best”-Live Tina Turner Tribute Show to celebrate the Life, Music & Legacy of Queen of Rock ‘N Roll-Tina Turner. I am inspired by her story and the fact that she overcame insurmountable obstacles to make her dreams come true and she surpassed them all. As I am inspired, I want to continue to inspire others through the work that I do,

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hmmmm….I would probably like to go to a quiet place in a cabin or something and just enjoy good food, wine and good conversation away from the outside world. I am more of an introvert so I don’t hang out much. I am often busy creating, researching info for the next project or busy with clients. I very seldom have week long trips. Most of my time is spent with my laptop. 🙂 When I do hang out, it would probably be some artsy place like attending a play on Broadway in New York or a play here in Hollywood or a Film Festival and again a nice restaurant afterwards and then back to Netflix and Chill or something or maybe go to a place that has nice food and music or back home or to a nice Air BnB to listen to some great music or just chill in pure quietness with a nice ambience. My best friend would probably have to pick the place. I could throw out some suggestions, but again I would not be the tour guide.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to Shoutout and give Praise & Honor to God who is the head of my life. Part of the name of my company is a short for my name “Meek” but it also comes from the scripture, “Blessed Are The Meek For They Shall Inherit the Earth.” Matthew 5:5 It is a humility unto God. I can truly say that often in my business I am certainly tried/tested with all of the different personalities I encounter. However, it is a part of my life’s mission and brand to remain Meek in my interactions. Meek must not be mistaken for Weak because I can still get the job done, it’s just that my approach is to remain Meek in the process of it all. I also want to shout out my Grandmother Clara Coney who has been instrumental in my life spiritually from a child growing up to my adulthood presently. She has prayed for me and with me and she has always supported me in every endeavor that I have set out to do and she has always reminded me of the importance of Prayer and the importance of “Keeping the faith,” along the way in life and in business and in utilizing my talents. I also want to shout out my Mother Joann Coney & My Father Lemo Coney because they also have been supportive in my endeavors and they have shared their wisdom and shown me the value and importance of having a strong work ethic and they also exposed me to the love of arts, music etc, and they have exposed me to interacting with all types of cultures and people in life and to not have biases.
