We had the good fortune of connecting with Dianna Heun and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dianna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my own practice to allow myself to be more present with my family. I was missing so much time with my daughter as she was growing up and I wanted the flexibility to manage my own schedule and be with her more. Which is also another reason in starting my own practice. As a new mom while working in the field could see there was such a need to support pregnant women and new moms, as there are so many unseen stressors and challenges that are faced. I wanted the freedom to provide the services that are needed, as I continued to be placed in a box when working under others.

What should our readers know about your business?
I specialize in maternal mental health. I support client spanning from family planning through end of postpartum. I have been working with this population of clients since 2019. I started my work with clients who were low income and at risk. Once I moved away from where I was provided those services, I got into the group practice setting. I was able to learn the intricacies of running a practice and started to fuel my passion for having my own practice one day. Once I completed all the requirements for my license, I began the steps to start my own practice. I am still learning I feel, though I am enjoying the ability to reach more of my desired clients and given the opportunity to provide services I feel there is a deficient. Having this practice is only the first step in my plans for my business. Still in the planning stages though I have the dream to grow much bigger and reach more type of clients and services.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The visitor plan would be coffee at Makennas while sitting and feeding the ducks at the Bridgeport duck pond. Then we would go to MB2 for some mini golf, go karts and arcade. Followed with dinner at either Finney’s or Mr. Sushi. I would take them to brunch at Eat Real Cafe in Old Town Newhall and if it’s a Saturday then after we can walk around the farmers market.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am so grateful for my cheer squad who has been supporting me through the ups and downs as a working mom. My husband has been by my side encouraging me in the hard time when I felt like giving up and celebrating big with each milestone closer to my own practice. He also has been such an equal partner in this parenting thing allow me to feel security in focusing on completing my hours and education to gain my license, then while I build my practice. My parents have also allowed me the comfort in caring for my daughter and cheering me on with each milestone. Lastly, I have to shoutout my amazing friends I have made along the way in the field, who have been an ear to vent, a space to process and gain advice.
