Meet Chakra Khan | Root Doctor, Psychic Surgeon

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chakra Khan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chakra, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Empathy is the basis of my business. As a root doctor and psychic surgeon and I need to operate from a place of non judgement when it comes to my clients and customers. People often become mired in shame for certain behaviors may have exhibited been during difficult times of our lives. I believe it is important to learn to forgive ourselves for our past behaviors so we can move forward without the burden and shame of guilt. It is critical for us to learn to see the beauty in our shadow selves and recognize what a gift shadow work is. We cannot do that without having empathy in our hearts for others and for ourselves.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Creating Roots and Stars Botanika in Morongo Valley, has been an honor and joy. Roots and Stars is my brick and mortar that operates as an apothecary, divination store, gift shop and healing center with an attached interactive art gallery to round out all of the magic we create. I bring New Orleans Voodoo to the high desert. At the heart of my practice is Spiritualism. My work has been nourished by the trust, veneration and wisdom that I receive from my guide Erzulie Freda. Without our connection I would not be the healer that I am today.
My practice as a Root Doctor and Psychic Surgeon, is deeply transformative healing rooted in ancestral wisdom and spiritual insight from Erzulie. Drawing upon healing practices found in New Orleans Voodoo herbal medicine, and spirit guided energy work, I address the spiritual, emotional, and physical imbalances that affect a clients well-being. My work as a Psychic Surgeon involves precise energetic interventions through spirits allowing me to see images of the trauma to aide in clearing blockages, releasing trauma, and restoring harmony within the body and spirit. I integrate plants into my healing once I see what the cause of the blockage is, I may use herbs to burn and blow over the blockage to remove the trauma. I hold space for profound healing journeys that empower individuals to reconnect with their true essence, align with their purpose, and access the innate wisdom carried in their bloodlines. I specialize in womb healings, women who have experienced abortions, miscarriages, traumatic births as well as sexual assault.
My apothecary is a magical one. I have hard to find herbs, many are not meant to be consumed (datura, black hellborn) but are to be used for spiritual purposes only. I offer free magical consultations and create custom candle spells, anointing oils, spiritual baths, mojo bags. I educate, and empower people.
In addition to making my own candles, I also make my Florida Water in house, and I also create custom herbal smoking blends. No magical shop would be complete without tarot readings. I offer tarot readings in what I think is the most beautiful reading room in the area. I am a certified yoga teacher, and sound healer. I offer plant aligned yoga and sound baths at well.
I also carry beautiful handcrafted items and clothing that I handpick to make people magical.
The interactive art gallery! Is GORGEOUS. Our entire space is inspired by New Orleans. My goal is have people who walk into the store feel as if they have been transported through time back to New Orleans in the late 1800’s. We have aged copper and verdis gris walls, flowers, and vines covering each room. Hundreds and butterflies and hanging wisteria will guide you through our immersive gallery featuring my husbands magical Infinity Boxes.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First stop is always Roots and Stars and enjoying the enchanting Infinity Boxes. These are psychedelic photo booths that blow minds. The Good House, in Desert Hot Springs is another favorite. It is a small adults only boutique hotel that offers day passes to their pools. It is so beautiful, with a lush garden and lemon trees whose flowers scent the air. My favorite spot for dinner is The Copper Room. The Copper Room is a fantastic midcentury restaurant and bar , to the old airport in Yucca Valley. They have a fantastic menu with some vegan/gluten options. On Sundays they have a live jazz band, its a vibe. Another cant miss local shop is Brewja Elixir a gorgeous adaptogen tea bar with a very creative menu and delicious drinks. One of my favorite spots in Whitewater. Just off the 10, 1 exit west and at the end of the road you’ll find a large parking lot with a small river. If you begin to hike the trails, the river widens and flows in the spring through summer with delicious snow melt from Big Bear. Its treat to hike a little ways into the mountain where the water is deeper and skinny dip on a hot summer day.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It seems wrong to just single out one person when I have been blessed to have so many wonderful, generous teachers. So I will name a small group of my teachers. Timothy Thaler of San Diego, Ca a Hermetic Master. He taught me tarot, astrology, and numerology decades ago. Joya, she introduced me to the Karmic Healing. Madame Shesheta who has helped me navigate the spirit realm and summoning spirits that guide me through the healings I offer. My husband, Matthew children especially my 1st born Basil, who has been my greatest teacher.
