Meet Nick Betts

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Betts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nick, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is the drive to always have the answers or to be able to do anything a client needs. Well into my 30’s I enrolled in Los Angeles Film School to get my degree in Graphic Design all while managing clients and teaching myself other skills needed for my business via YouTube. I was very green to video production, editing, etc. There were many many days where I would stay up till 3am just to finish a clients project. I hate being embarrassed, so my drive to succeed kept me going and was unparalleled.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In 2019 I went through a very bad divorce which left me absolutely broke and living in Mexico. Moving back to San Diego, I had to cut my teeth and get to work on rebuilding not just my life but my career. Putting my head down and chasing new clients ended up panning out for me and started to give me a bit of success that I took and ran with. The challenges I faced was the massive expense of the physical equipment I needed to promise my clients a full scope marketing and creative agency. Video and photo gear is not cheap, so being able to do a lot with very little proved difficult.
I also separated myself by being former Army Recon because there are few video and photo professionals out there that are comfortable in helicopters, scuba diving and other dangerous modes of transportation. This level of comfortability allowed me to provide some of the most diverse and amazing content that clients had never seen before.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This happens frequently to me actually. I love to take the boat out in the bay and bar hop starting at Ketch and then moving over to Bali Hai. I then take them to the bait dock to check out the sea life before hitting up Peohe’s on Coronado before heading home. I make it a point to hit up Little Italy and Ocean Beach as well with OB being my old stomping grounds for 10 years before moving south to IB. The safari animal park is high on the list as well since it’s such a good way to get exercise and see the amazing wild life. Coasterra, OB Noodle, Waterfront and McP’s all hold a special place in my heart for food and drink. I also usually try to get in a round of golf at North Island or Torrey Pines.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to give a huge shoutout to my mentors like Ryan Rosas, Matt Bailey and Ben Carpenter. Without these three answering my late night phone calls or working with me on projects, I would not be where I am today. They constantly helped me achieve my goals and kept me accountable while making a name for myself and growing my business.
