We had the good fortune of connecting with Aubrey Beckman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aubrey, what do you attribute your success to?
I personally believe the most important factor behind my success is passion! Finding something I was incredibly passionate about at such a young age, has lead me to constantly pursue the job I always dreamed of!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Heritage, although at the time didn’t have a name was a life long dream of mine. Since I was 5 years old, I told my parents I wanted to be a pastry chef and live in San Diego when I grew up, and I literally just never gave up on that dream. As a kid, I’d scour the kitchen pantry to find any ingredients from the latest Food Network show being aired to bake any chance I would get, when I was close to graduating high school I worked at our hometown bakery knowing it was prepping me for my future in culinary school. Through culinary school I worked in a couple different bakeries, after work I’d literally go home and keep baking, testing any and every recipe, many being family recipes, to build a whole lot of Heritage’s current staples! Shortly after I had officially went out on my own, with some solid weddings and events booked, Covid hit. What was now my sole income was being put on pause, so I created custom boxes for any and every holiday or occasion I could think of and hand delivered them to every customers door, which then inspired me to release my own cookbook Heritage at Home, with my new found free time! The long hours and intense pressure of wedding perfection has been far from easy, but more than anything the adrenaline and passion help drive my vision for Heritage and my love for creating edible art.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My idea of fun is eating and drinking my way through the newest or staple bakeries and restaurants in town! After working in the kitchen all day, my favorite thing is to be pampered and spoiled with my favorite foods and drinks!

A few of my staples are…
Harvest Wine Company because they source sustainable, unique and delicious wines
Relic Bageri – conveniently our kitchen neighbors so I can pop over to try their latest seasonal menu and offerings
Novo Brazil’s Kombucha is mine and my husbands long time favorite to enjoy with friends

Some new found favorites
Jolie in Coronado- a hidden gem with incredibly thought out seasonal dishes and wine pairings… afterwards I may or may not sneak over to Stake for a Creme Brulee Espresso Martini

Little Fox Cup and Cone- I am absolutely an ice cream snob and their flavors and inclusions are top notch!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I truly would not be where I am today without the continuous support of my husband and parents. The food industry is not for the faint of heart, the blood, sweat and tears are driven with constant encouragement. I never took the easy road, I pushed through culinary school because I knew my dream was to have my own company and unless I worked really hard, logged lots of hours and tested thousands of recipes there was no way I was going to get to that point. They have not only been my constant words of encouragement, but taste testers and inspiration for my work. Heritage wouldn’t be, Heritage without recipes and memories passed down from our family!
