What’s Your Why?

We asked some of the most creative folks we know to open up to us about why they chose a creative career path. Check out their responses below.
I pursued an artistic career because of music. I always loved music as a kid and when I got old enough I became involved in the music scene. I recorded my first song in 2006, released my first EP My Lyrical Expression in 2012 and now on my 5th Independent Album C’est La Vie is set to release in 2025. I am dropping my 3rd single “Purple Lights -Vibe” next week off my forthcoming new album C’est La Vie. Purple lights is a nice chill trap beat produced by T-Drum from South Africa. Purple lights comes after my singles California Psychics and Wo Ai Ni. Which were all released this year to anticipate the new forthcoming album coming out next year. Read more>>

I knew from a very young age that my brain was wired to be more creative than analytical. Fortunately for me, my parents recognized that, and encouraged me to hone in on my craft. Now, that didn’t mean they let me slack in school or in other departments. If I wanted to focus on extra curricular activities and get a job just so I can be surrounded by fashion, that meant my school work had to be on lock. I chose an artistic and creative career because it’s all I know, it’s my calling and my destiny. Creating art is as natural to me as breathing. I just need the courage to follow it. Read more>>
I pursued a creative career as a DJ because I genuinely love what I do. Music has always been a passion of mine, and DJing gives me the chance to share that love with others. There’s nothing quite like the energy of a crowd, the way music brings people together, and the joy of creating moments that people will remember forever. It’s incredibly rewarding to turn a playlist into an experience and to know I’m helping people celebrate some of the most important days of their lives. For me, it’s not just a job—it’s my art and my way of connecting with the world. Read more>>
It’s something that just happened. It’s hard to explain exactly why I ended up taking this path. A strong sense of intuition that propelled me forward, to write. I’ve always had a strong academic background. Excelling in my classes throughout high school. I got my bachelor’s degree in business management at San Francisco State University. Going through certain life experiences gave me the inspiration and motivation to eventually write a major work myself someday. Such as my childhood, travels, and adventures I’ve partaken in. It’s all reflected in my writings. I answered the calling from the muses, as it happens to most if not all creatives. This has to be followed by decisive action, or it just remains as ideas in one’s head that never see the light of day. Read more>>
I pursued an artistic career because creating art has always felt like an intrinsic part of who I am—a way to process the world around me and connect with others. From a young age, I was captivated by the transformative power of art, but life’s practical demands often pulled me in different directions. My time in the Navy and my career in nursing were fulfilling in their own ways, but the pull toward art never truly left me. It became a quiet, constant presence, waiting for the right moment to emerge. Read more>>
