We had the good fortune of connecting with Kate Schrader and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kate, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in a small town in Wisconsin. My mom was a professional photographer, and she always took photos of me, which made me very comfortable in front of the camera. I loved it. I don’t think I would be the person I am today without the passion both of my parents have for the arts. I knew at a very young age that I wanted to be an actor, and as soon as I was able to, I began acting in school productions. Being able to do those productions solidified my passion for acting and that I could make a career for myself.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an actor. My resume includes “Loss of Essence” and “My Eyes Only” which both premiered this year. I’ve also done multiple short films, and I played ‘Sydney’ in the popular webseries on Tiktok: “SydneyPlus.” I am most proud of my performance in the short film “Storage.” I play an unstable cheerleader, which was very fun to tap into. I’ve gotten where I am by, to put it simply, a lot of auditions. I studied at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Hollywood for two years, which taught me so much about acting and how to be a working actor. I am constantly trying to find new ways to improve and keep everything fresh. It’s definitely hard, especially with constant rejection, but working through that rejection is what’s rewarding. Obviously, you can’t be right for everything, and that’s okay! What you are right for will come to you. Sometimes it just takes longer than you’d like it to. I’ve booked projects that I thought I bombed auditions for, and I’ve never heard back from some of (what I thought were) my “best” auditions. Everything is subjective and the best thing you can do is not take anything personally.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would begin in my favorite part of LA: Los Feliz. Walking down Vermont, going into Skylight Books or seeing a movie at the Loz Feliz Theater is guaranteed to be a good time. All of the restaurants in the area are great, my favorites include Tu Madre, La Pergoletta, Home, and Fred 62. Griffith Observatory is a must see, too, while in the area. Although I would avoid most of Hollywood, going to The Grove is a staple of LA, as well as shopping on Melrose. As for nightlife, some of the best bars are in Hollywood including: No Vacancy, Davey Waynes, Bar Lis, and so many more. Most of my time is preferably spent on the beach in Malibu, though. SunLife Organics is great for a quick breakfast that you can take with you to the beach. Every beach in Malibu is beautiful, but I would recommend everyone see El Matador beach or Leo Carrillo beach.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my mom for always being so supportive of my dreams. Without her unwavering support and love, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
