Hi Pim, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Born and raised in the Netherlands, I have been residing in San Diego, CA since 2020. Coming from a family with deep roots in tradition—my grandmother was a baroness—I was raised with a strong emphasis on discipline, etiquette, and respect. My parents instilled in me the importance of upholding high standards, a legacy passed down through generations.
My early experience in European hospitality gave me a keen eye for detail and an unwavering commitment to service excellence. I honed these skills further during my time as a high-end event organizer at “The Waiter” in the Netherlands.
Throughout my life, I have had the privilege of living in the Netherlands, Ireland, Spain, and the U.S., which broadened my perspective on different cultures. While each culture brings its own unique preferences and expectations, I realized that the pursuit of excellence in service is a constant, no matter where you are.
These experiences, combined with my upbringing, inspired me to establish Handgraaf Estates in the U.S.—a luxury property management and household staffing firm dedicated to delivering the highest standard of service.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Handgraaf Estates is a premier luxury property management and household staffing firm, dedicated to providing tailored services to meet the unique needs of each client. Our expertise includes:
– Managing primary residences
– Managing secondary homes
– Managing investment properties
– Household staffing solutions
We specialize in the management of luxury properties across La Jolla, Rancho Santa Fe, and Del Mar, with clients extending as far north as Fallbrook. Our approach is fully customized, ensuring that we address the specific preferences and requirements of every client.
Many of our clients maintain second homes in La Jolla while residing in other states, such as Texas, and visit only occasionally. In their absence, we provide comprehensive management services, overseeing all aspects of the property. This includes routine (bi-)weekly inspections to check for leaks, ensure all systems (lighting, heating, HVAC) are functioning properly, and coordinating repairs with trusted vendors as needed.
In our household staffing division, we specialize in sourcing, vetting, and placing top-tier candidates in a variety of domestic roles, including nannies, housekeepers, private chefs, estate managers, personal assistants, and more. Our staffing services extend nationwide, and we have successfully placed professionals in locations such as Miami, FL, Atherton, CA, and throughout San Diego.

I would like to dedicate this heartfelt shoutout to my incredible wife, Isabella “Santiza” Handgraaf. We’ve been together since we were teenagers, and in that time, we’ve traveled the world, navigated both the challenges and joys of life, and grown stronger with each step. Through it all, Isabella has been the unwavering force that has driven us forward. Her love, support, and resilience are the reasons we stand where we are today. Thank you, my love, for being my partner in every sense of the word. I owe our success and happiness to no one else but you.
