We had the good fortune of connecting with Yessica Lizbeth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yessica, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born and raised in Tijuana; we moved to the states when I was only six years old. For the first part of my childhood we lived in San Ysidro, finished most of my elementary years there before moving to San Diego where I did the rest. Being from another country and not knowing English was not easy at all as many people can relate. I remember putting extra effort in learning the language as I wanted to understand the cartoons I was watching at the time. Thankfully, I picked it up quite fast. It was getting used to a different lifestyle that was a bit more challenging for me. I was used to being out in our street with my cousins playing all day while our parents talked and watched over us, to not being able to do that here because we were living at an apartment. I also enjoyed being sent to the little mom and pop small stores in our area to buy snacks, tortillas, small grocery items. Here, I couldn’t do that, there was no such thing. It was a drastic change for me, we literally packed to start a whole different life from scratch.

My background and my upbringing have help me understand and relate to lots of people that just like me are not from this country. It has made me empathize with them, connect in another level if you will. I like to help those that need it, just like at one point my family needed help. I’m proud of who I am today, I’m blessed to live and experience two countries and their cultures alternatively. It was hard at the beginning, but now that I’m older I imagine how much harder it was for my parents.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I created the Facebook group Everything for your party (San Diego County). I actually got the idea from party groups I was part of in Tijuana and Rosarito. I couldn’t find any here, so I created my own because I was in need of vendors for an upcoming party I was planning for my daughter. To be honest it was a spur of the moment thing, never thought it will get to where it is today. After 2 years of great acceptance, I created its Instagram and Tik Tok version. Honestly, I was skeptical about it at the beginning too, didn’t think it will get followers, boy was I wrong. They are not as big as the Facebook one yet, but they are slowly gaining momentum thanks to everyone that has shared them.

I believe what sets me apart from others is the fact that I let members share both their positive and negative experiences with vendors, and viceversa. I’m a firm believer that everyone should know the good, the bad and the ugly of everything in life. I understand that planning events is stressful, but hopefully with other people’s feedback it can help them make a better decision.

I’m most proud of the acceptance, since I never thought none of this would happen. The amazing feedback from members, how this idea is able to help everyone facilitate their event planning and how much it has helped vendors find work. Of course there has been challenges, but to be honest they haven’t been major. Mostly just the fact that as a mom of four, I have to manage my time right.

The lessons I’ve learned is that just like with anything in life there’s some people that will not like what you do and that is fine. That’s the beauty of life, we can agree to disagree. We can’t keep everyone happy and that is perfectly okay. I want everyone to know that I provide them with a place to find their event services, a place where they are welcome to express themselves as long as they do it in a respectful manner. Anyone is welcome to share their business, from someone starting at home, to a small business, and of course companies. The sun shines for everyone I say. That is how I want everyone to know me by.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I honestly never plan anything. I just know I would tell them about my favorite places and have them choose where they want to go. After all, they are the ones visiting, it’s all about them enjoying their stay here.

For food starting in the South Bay I like Tacos El Parejita, El Tomatito Mexican Food, La Moreliana Bakery, The House of Cuban Flavor, Mujer Divina, Sushi House, Golden Mandarin, Mariscos Mar Y Tierra. Humberto’s Taco Shop (43rd st), Las Uvas Tejuinos La Dona, Green Vine Delicatessen, La Sierra Cafe, Pho 7 cow, El Salvadoreno and Cafe Moto.

Going further up will be Rose Donuts in Linda Vista, Taste of Hong Kong in Clairemont Mesa, Aladdin Mediterranean Restaurant also in Clairemont Mesa, The Boiling Crab in Mira Mesa. La Cocina del Carmen in Vista, and lastly in East County, California Mountain Bakery in Santa Ysabel, Romano’s Italian Restaurant in Julian and the vary famous Julian Pie Company also in Julian of course.

I’ll take them shopping to Las Americas Outlets, H Mart, some local farmer’s markets, Spring Valley swap meet. I’ll ask what they want to do, and I will give them an answer lol.

I don’t drink or go clubbing, but if that is something my company is interested in, I could take them to downtown and have them pick something they like.

I’m more of a let’s go walking or go up to the mountains to relax kind of person. So, Cabrillo National Monument and Mount soledad will be my top picks to get the most perfect views of our city. Then you have the usuals like Balboa Park, Old town, Sea Port Village, and Julian to visit for a nice walk and enjoy our weather. Of course, we are known for our beaches so I would also let them know of all the beautiful choices we have. Hope they brought their passport, sentri card, etc because going across the border for some tacos will also be in the plans.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly, my four children and my husband for being patient with me. Running social media can be kind of hectic, stressful and take away valuable time from your daily life. My brother and sister-in-law for giving me the idea of taking the Facebook group to Instagram and Tik Tok. As well as to other various family members that take the time to give me ideas on how to make all of this better every day.

Aside from my family I would also like to give a shout out to all of those members and vendors that have taken the time to share our social media. It started on Facebook, but they are taking this further than that. Thanks to every single one of them for believing in all of this, for sharing our links in hopes others will benefit from them. It feels amazing, and it’s very heartwarming to say the least.
