When I started the business, I was kind of in a bad place. I was working at a job that I was very unhappy at, I was in a relationship that I wasn’t very happy with, I was far away from my family which was hard for me and I just wanted to do something that made me happy. Torus seeks to create a network of heart-centred spiritual creatives and wellness practitioners, whose aim is to develop their artistry within their craft. I’ve found that wellness, spirituality, and art all fall under the same umbrella, which is how I’ve come to the intention of developing Torus as a “heartist hub.” To me, a heartist is someone who engages in some sort of passion-filled endeavour, whether it’s spiritual, artistic, or both, from an authentic place of wanting to share their light with others. I’ve been an educator for over a decade, but it wasn’t until the pandemic that my career took a complete pivot. When schools closed, I was faced with an immediate decision—do I watch my dyslexic stepson (ten years old at the time) struggle academically due to school closures, or do I take matters into my own hands? Coming from a background and experience in education, it was a no-brainer. I decided to homeschool my son. . . but one thing led to another, and before I knew it, I had launched a full-time “microschool” and was teaching a group of seven 5th/6th graders out of my two-bedroom home!
