We had the good fortune of connecting with Sanaz Aghachi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sanaz, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Giving up is never an option-(Unless you don’t want it to work.) As long as there are different avenues to take, keep going.

I have been working on my candle company for 8 years. I didn’t make money for first 4 years. If I had given up, I would’ve still been at 0. Of course, I am still not where I want to be, however there is progress and growth. Again, if I give up now, I am at 0. It is better to have something and keep working for it, then giving up and being at zero. Find something you love and crave, and keep going.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love being a creator. I love designing. I created my candles from scratch, designed my packaging, logo, colors, everything myself. I have an eye for it. Even with clothes I noticed I would always change or modify them into a different design that I would create and would get so many compliments on it. Creativity is easy for me. It comes natural to me, however the challenges are overcoming perfectionism. As a creator, I pay attention to every single little detail and it can become very draining and un-motivating. It is important to take brakes, celebrate the small wins, and reassure yourself that your work is good enough. Finding your niche in a competitive market is demanding, but once you find it, run with it and never give up. Continue to advance your product/company every year and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Utilize other people’s knowledge around you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For restaurants by the water, I would go in Santa Monica and Malibu where the view is spectacular and the weather is a mood enhancer. For restaurants that have more of a boujie vibe and an ambience to meet people, we would go to Beverly Hills. We have some of the most iconic hikes and museums. Staycations at most famous hotels is also very eventful. Take mini trips to different cities like Palm Springs, Ojai, San Diego, Orange County are also a way of seeing how life is like outside of LA.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out the local farmers markets. It is where I started and was successful with steady cashflow every weekend. People that shop at the farmers markets are very loyal and I am blessed enough to meet some of my devoted clientele. I was able to expand to 10 farmers markets a week with 4 employees which gave me a lot of experience, knowledge, and a small taste of how to run a successful company.

I would also like to give a shoutout to the Las Vegas Home and Gift show where I exhibited and it took my business to the next level. People attend from all over the world and you build these connections and meet people that can really change your life, your business in the matter of a day. I have met some of the biggest names and buyers for the biggest retailers and corporations in the world.
