Meet Autumn Morris | Hairdresser, Salon Owner, Product Developer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Autumn Morris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Autumn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
This question always cracks me up because when I started my own business at the ripe age of 22, I didn’t really have a thought process. Well, maybe just a tiny bit of kidding, but not really 😉 I just went with the flow and followed my gut. You see, at that time, I was feeling a bit “over” working for Chaz Dean, so I walked out and ended up becoming a booth renter, which is basically like owning your own business. It was a sink or swim situation, and boy did it force me to work harder!
Now, as I embark on starting another business, albeit a different type, the thought process is still there. I always start with a beautiful ending in mind, but then I have to dive into the nitty-gritty details. I mentally write everything down, step by step, and ask myself, “What can I do now with what I have?” It’s all about breaking it down and accomplishing things one by one. Funny enough, even though I’m a bit of a procrastinator and tend to wait until the last moment, it seems to work for me. So far so good.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When it comes to my art, there’s one thing that sets me apart from others: my unwavering dedication and determination. I believe in going full speed ahead, working tirelessly to achieve my goals and visions. Along the way, a name popped into my mind, and I registered it, knowing it would become a product one day. Initially starting as a tinted non-aerosol dry shampoo and conditioner line, it eventually transformed into a patent-pending 7-in-1 Hair Extension system.
However, the journey wasn’t easy. I encountered challenges and had to learn the hard way. I made mistakes, but I learned from them. One of the valuable lessons I took away from those setbacks was the importance of listening to my gut. If something didn’t feel right, I knew it wasn’t for me. I wanted to create something that was uniquely different and would revolutionize the industry. So, I collaborated with another hairstylist, and during the weekly meetings amidst the Covid pandemic, our thoughts turned into ideas, which we then put down on paper.
The process was long, and we had to reapply for a patent, but we never gave up. We believed in our creation, and we mentally prepared ourselves for all possible scenarios. After investing thousands of dollars, years of hard work, and collaborating with different individuals, we finally found the partner of our dreams. Together, during Covid, we created a hair extension skin tool that is set to revolutionize the hair extension industry.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that I am relentless in pursuing my vision. I don’t shy away from challenges, and I believe in pushing boundaries to create something extraordinary. My journey has been filled with ups and downs, but through perseverance and collaboration, I have turned my ideas into reality. I am proud of the product we have created, and I am excited to share it with the world. Get ready for a revolution in the hair extension industry!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area, I would plan an amazing week-long trip for them. Since the weather in San Diego is perfect, we would make the most of it. Here’s a little itinerary:
Day 1: We would start the day with a refreshing beach walk or run to soak up the beautiful surroundings. For breakfast, we would head to South Oceanside by the pier and indulge in some delicious gluten-free treats at Petite Madeline Bakery.
Day 2: We would spend the day at the beach, playing beach volleyball and enjoying the sun. In the afternoon, we would go for a shopping trip in downtown Carlsbad, exploring the unique shops and boutiques.
Day 3: To add some excitement to our trip, we would take a cooking class in Encinitas at Sur La Table. It would be a fun and interactive experience where we can learn new culinary skills.
Day 4: I work at Del Mar Plaza, so we would spend the day there. Every Friday, we have Margarita Friday at the salon. We would order some delicious Skinny Margaritas from Tamarindo Restaurant and enjoy the lively atmosphere. In the evening, we can head upstairs to the plaza where they have live music. We would sit on the deck, sipping on our drinks, and watch the sunset while listening to some great music. Chips and guacamole would be our go-to for some tasty snacks.
Day 5-7: We would continue to enjoy the beach, music, and activities throughout the weekend. Whether it’s taking part in water sports, exploring nearby attractions, or simply relaxing by the shore, we would make the most of our time and create memorable experiences.
Overall, San Diego offers a fantastic blend of fun, interesting, and exciting places to explore. From the beautiful beaches to the vibrant downtown areas, there is never a shortage of things to do and see. This itinerary would ensure that my best friend has the best time ever, creating lasting memories of our adventures in San Diego.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Alright, let’s dive right into it! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing the people, groups, organizations, books, and more that have played a role in our success and journey. And boy, do I have some shoutouts to give!
Throughout my journey, there have been countless individuals who have motivated me to reach for the stars. But one person who deserves a massive shoutout is none other than Chaz Dean. I was fortunate enough to be hired by him at the young age of 19 as his assistant in the world of hairdressing. Let me tell you, being his protégé was an incredible experience. Not only did he teach me the ins and outs of the industry, but we also became the best of friends.
Chaz Dean instilled in me an invaluable lesson that I will never forget. He told me to never let expensive things deter me, but instead, to let them be a tool that pushes me to earn more. And that piece of advice has stuck with me ever since. So here’s to Chaz Dean, the person who believed in me and encouraged me to dream big!
