Meet Bridget Potterton | CEO/ Bridge Coast Realty Team

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bridget Potterton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bridget, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
When the pandemic hit in 2020, I think we as a society changed in many ways. For me, I completely changed my view of the world. I always saw myself as someone who would get heavily involved in charities when I retired. I thought I had to have gray hair and 65+ years of life experience before I could make a real impact in the world. However, I realized that I was privileged because I had a safe home, I could pay my mortgage and I wasn’t worried about where my family’s next meal was going to come from. There were people suffering so much during that time. I looked in the mirror one day and say, “Why not me? Why not now?” From then on, I looked for ways to help my community. I realized opportunities to make a difference started to come to me. I was invited to sit on non-profit boards, go on mission trips in Mexico, do fundraisers to create life changing opportunities for those underserved. It has not only changed my life, but it has changed my business. My clients, vendors, and team all have gotten behind this and support the causes I introduce them to. It has been incredible.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started my own real estate company in 2007. It was a terrible time to open up a brokerage but I believed in myself and knew I could do it. I didn’t have a family or much money at the time, so I didn’t really have much to lose if I failed. It was so hard. Real estate has a massive failure rate and I didn’t want to be one of those statistics. I built my business slowly by building relationships, not “selling”. It has served me very well as I have built a lot of trust with my clients over the years. Sometimes that means talking someone out of buying or selling their home. Sometimes, it means walking away from a deal. My clients know I will always work in their best interest. In return, my clients refer their friends, family and coworkers to me. It is an amazing feeling when you know someone not only trusts you to help them, but to also help their kids, their parents, or friends with their real estate needs as well.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would be very busy because there are so many great things to do here in San Diego! I would spend time at Balboa Park and perhaps visit a few museums, time at the zoo, walk around Coronado and get ice cream at Moo Time Creamery. I would also spend a day in Julian and go on a hike, eat at Sushi Deli near Convoy, a day at Wild Animal Park, Walk around La Jolla, dinner in Old Town at Barra Barra, brunch at 94th Aero Squadron, a run at the boardwalk in Pacific Beach or in Mission Bay, cocktails at Draft in Mission Beach or Town 23. Dinner at The Melting Pot. The possibilities are endless in America’s Finest City!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
For the last 7 years, my Director of Operations Victor Havens has helped to keep the company running when I travel for conferences, mission trips, non-profit functions, etc. Without his support, I wouldn’t be able to do all of the things that I do.
I also am grateful to my husband Matt Potterton, who takes care of things at home when I do travel to follow my passion of helping others.
