We had the good fortune of connecting with Tasha Hunzeker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tasha, what matters most to you?
Being eco-friendly. It is so easy to throw things away and be unaware of the environmental impacts. There are so many cookie decorating tools that are disposable and the amount of plastic being thrown away was really hard for me to feel comfortable with. I’ve made a lot of changes to my business including using home compostable bags and cellulose dish cloths. I bake during off peak hours using solar, and do my best to recycle when I can’t reuse.
Even though I know my business is small, I really find pride in being able to reduce my carbon footprint even a little.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I take a lot of pride in the fact that my cookies are more than just beautiful, they are also very tasty! I went through a lot of recipe adjustments to find just the right taste, while also holding its shape. Because in the end, edible artwork is just that, edible! They are meant to be consumed, so what’s the point of having a gorgeous cookie if it tastes terrible?

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
La Jolla shores is always a fan favorite! Since I have little kiddos, the playground right on the beach near a bathroom is really clutch! For the best burgers ever, no place can beat STP in Clairemont. Its right off of the 805 and completely car themed. I have never once gotten anything to eat there that was sub-par.
Everyone knows the Hotel Del is a sight to see, but on the other side of Coronado is the ferry landing pier. I love the watching the boats and being able to do some small shopping in the center. Its a very cool way to see downtown San Diego I think a lot of people miss.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband. Many times in the beginning I thought of selling everything and just quitting. But through his encouragement he really helped me push through the difficult times.
