We had the good fortune of connecting with Aventine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aventine, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in Palm Springs, California and because my father was also a musician, I have always been surrounded by music. So much so that when I was born, my father actually brought a keyboard into the delivery room to ensure the first thing that I ever heard was music. Unfortunately, I lost him to a heart attack when I was 4 years old and my mom struggled with a lot of substance abuse issues, which left me moving around and battling a lot growing up. I eventually ended up with my Aunt and Uncle whom graciously took me in, but because of my background, I have always felt like a bit of an outsider. Writing songs and creating truly have remained an outlet / constant in my life, and I almost feel like it’s the way that I have have continued to feel connected to, and communicated with my father about my life. While the journey hasn’t been easy, I feel like music is the only thing that I truly know and I am grateful for every experience that has molded me into who I am today.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Although I’ve been writing songs for as long as I can remember, I really started to take my carrer seriously right before I finished high school. I started to build a local following in San Diego and had the incredible blessing of being able to book and perform at House of Blues. Through that experience, I had a music / management company approach me, promising the world on a platter. Hindsight is 20/20 because usually when things sound too good to be true, they are, and this was no exception. Being young and naive, I started my journey with them before quickly realizing that every song that I produced, wrote, and released was under THEIR name and only generating income for THEIR business. I was promised to received a cut, however, unfortunately that never took place. After seasons of never ending promises, followed by ignoring me for months, it was agreed that we needed to part ways.

While all of this was happening I had also just lost my childhood best friend, Karmen, to suicide- so as you can imagine, all of this took a severe toll on my productivity and drive. I decided to get a fresh start and move from San Diego back to my hometown of Palm Springs, and settled into a regular 9am-5pm job. While living paycheck to paycheck, I slowly ended up falling into the many motions of life.

It wasn’t until the end of 2022 that I really started to remember how essential of an outlet music was to me again. I started writing songs almost every day, and knew that music was all I was meant to do with my life. With a determined sprit, I knew I needed to make 2023 count so I started planning shows and getting back out there again. In February, I played a show in Los Angeles and posted a few videos to my Instagram story, before quickly being contacted by the A&R of Sound Lounge Studios asking if I wanted to stop in for a production night session at their studio. I had actually met him back around my House of Blues show, however, due to previous scheduling issues, we never had the opportunity. to work together. I decided to give it a shot and wow, did that end up being the best decision of my life…..

Fast forward to today, I don’t want to put too much out there before it is done, but things are in the works for me to officially be a signed artist and I am very excited. If there is anything that I have learned, its that sometimes, everything you needed really was right in front of you all along. Never give up until you find it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you’re in town for the weekend, be sure to check out Coronado Beach while you’re here! The views are breathtaking and the beautiful Hotel Del overlooks all of it. There are many amazing restaurants and bars around the area as well, along with great people and personalities both local and tourist alike.

Another place I love to go is Cloak and Pedal in Little Italy. They have an incredible selection of food and drinks there, support local artists and poets, and really have curated an overall beautiful atmosphere.

Last but not least, if you’re in town the last Saturday of the month, every month, there is an amazing artist showcase hosted by Sham Blak at The Black Cat Bar on University Ave. I highly recommend checking it out and you may even see me there!!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
From the beginning, I could not be more grateful for the love, support, and guidance that Sound Lounge Studios has had in my carrer. They truly have shown me what true friendship, care, family, and mentorship looks like, and have helped bring my sound & carrer to a new level. I have been blessed to be apart of their production team and through this experience, I have had the incredible opportunity of meeting several industry legends- both artists and producers alike. I would also not be who I am today without my amazing team at A-Yo Records. They have genuinely seen me and inspired me to bring my carrer to it’s fullest potential in every way. Both Sound Lounge and A-Yo Records are incredible on their own, but to have both entities backing and supporting me is truly and surreal experience and I couldn’t be more grateful for them.
