Meet Porsche Stubblefield | Female Dj

We had the good fortune of connecting with Porsche Stubblefield and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Porsche, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was tired of not filling fulfilled. I knew music had always been a passion of mine, but I never really saw myself making a career out of it. During the pandemic, I started really pondering on what would really make me happy? Something I would do even if I didn’t get paid and just feel free and light. Music hit me, but I narrowed down a few avenues I could take. I started off with a podcast, but the podcast eventually led to me DJ’n. I wanted to be in the room with my listeners when they heard my musical selections and embrace their emotions as the beat dropped. This sparked an immediate fire within me and ever since 2021, I’ve been working on perfecting my craft as a dj.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I always think of collaborating versus looking at people as competition, but I’ve grown to learn most people in this industry do not feel the same. I fondly remember being eager about joining a group of DJs to help expand and get my name out there, but things just didn’t pan out that way. So, I decided the road less traveled will get me where I need to be, but it won’t be easy. So far, I’m headed in the right direction. I’m investing more into my skills and business as much as I can. I’m always looking for ways to uplift and encourage other DJs who are just starting out, because this industry can be cold and deceiving. I’ve learned it’s better to find your own lane, and make sure you’re doing what you’re doing to ensure you’re happy! Don’t follow anyone else’s lead, follow your own. I started just 3 years ago in my room pushing myself to catch the beat on the 1, now im booked and busy. Don’t be afraid to take risks and bet on yourself. I’m willing to go broke to see where I land in this industry. I want it badly! Find something that ignites your passion and run with it, don’t sit on it too long, or else you’ll talk yourself out of it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would start out with Dinner at Planta, my favorite vegan restaurant. Followed by dessert at the Baked Bear, I absolutely love their dessert.
The next morning, we’d take a nice drive to Love Life Cafe in Laurel, MD for the best Chai Latte. After that, we’d go to the fells point farmers market in Baltimore, MD.
Later on that evening, we’d go to Hampden in Baltimore MD and walk around and visit some local bars.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife deserves more than a little credit! She has really helped mold me into a great Dj but she also keeps me on my toes. She pushes me each and every gig. After gigs, I ask her to rate my sets on a scale from 1-10. To this day, I still have not achieved a 10, haha. Though, I always aim higher each set, she pushes me to continually raise the bar so that I may never reach a 10. There’s always work to do and she helps keep me grounded and push towards greater heights. I’d also love to really should out Dj Tim Nice and Dj Sole, they are gems in my life. Always willing to answer any questions I’ve ever had and not make me feel little for not knowing. They each have been a safe space for me in this dj industry. They’re both excellent Djs and I’m lucky to have them both in my corner.
