We had the good fortune of connecting with Cristina Dagohoy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cristina, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I am a Candid + Documentary Wedding Photographer and Videographer and the most important factor behind my success with my brand is the human experience. Allowing my couples to simply allow themselves to be present on their wedding day is the key to timeless photos and film. When my couples choose to be fully immersed on their wedding day, their photos and videos would reflect that. When my couples are truly experiencing all of their emotions of their wedding, the timeless, genuine, authentic photos and videos will come naturally.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve noticed that when I stopped at directing and started observing on wedding days, an interesting started to happen. My thought process moved from “wow I can’t believe I created that” to “wow I can’t believe I captured that”

And that made me realize something as a photographer and videographer. When you give up on the idea of what a Wedding is “supposed to be”, but instead, embrace the day as it is, allow people to be themselves, and join in on the celebration of two people in love, that’s when the authenticity starts to uncover itself.

These are the photos and films that I can’t recreate and the stuff that makes a wedding day truly unique.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my best friend to go hiking in Three Sisters Falls and slide down the waterfalls. We would go to Windansea Beach, have a picnic and enjoy the sunset. I’d take my best friend to go see the skyline of San Diego during the night and eat tacos afterwards.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for the endless amount of support that I’ve received and continue to receive. I want to dedicate my shoutout to everyone who said something about my work whether it be a positive feedback or a constructive feedback, to couples who have chosen me to document their love story, and to family/friends who truly supported my dream of starting a creative business. <3
