We had the good fortune of connecting with Melody Godspower and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melody, why did you pursue a creative career?
Pursuing a career filled with so many creative and artistic levels was the only way I could properly show case myself and hopefully have other people better understand me. My style, desire and way of communication seems to come across better when I’m doing what I know best to do.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started making music professionally in 2020 in the midst of the pandemic, but my love for music didn’t just start there. I have always being in the choir and have always loved how music is made. From the formulation of the beats, to the melodies that form the flow of the songs, its a process I have always dreamt to be a part of. In general I just love the process. Although hard sometimes, it’s such a beautiful thing to look at the process of creating a body of work ,either in my music or writing or making accessories for my business, you can never completely shake off that joyfulness one feels when they see/here the end result of all that work.

I believe what sets me apart from others are the reasons why I’m doing it. Everyone has their own reasons, and even if we are all doing the same thing, how far we reach in our career determines strongly on why we do it. For me I do it for God, for my family and myself, which means I derive joy from this. From making music to every single bead or thread sown on any of my products to every single thought I write down , there is so much joy in knowing this could bless someone or make their day better.

Right now I have a couple music projects I’m working on set to come out in a few months ,so I’m really excited about that. Its going to be a mix of several genres of music. I’m still trying to find my sound and I believe this way I can figure out what works well for me .

Where I am right now is as a result of my hard work and Consistency. Despite all the hurdles along the way, i still got here and Hopefully with more hard work ,prayer and consistency I can reach greater heights and accomplish so much more.

My biggest lesson to learn till date is to “trust God and not myself ” . I know for most people it might be the opposite, but for me I have realized my emotion can cloud my judgement a lot , so due to me knowing that ,when I stopped trusting myself and started trusting God, that meant i was able to do things according to what he would expect from me. Now this doesn’t mean I don’t have trust in myself or belive in myself ..it means while I do believe in myself and my skills, I have decided to trust God on how those skills should be utilized better, In a way that serves him and also brings me joy.

I want the world to know I’m just a woman who had a goal and worked hard to achieve it. My brand is all about doing, things that will bring me peace and Hopefully bring peace to the world. That’s what I want my brand to symbolize. This little Nigerian girl who wants to introduce the world to her love for her culture and her love for other cultures in her fashion, Music, literary work and anything else she is blessed with and opportune to be a part of in the future.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Six flags would be my go to place any day. It literally has everything in it. The food ,amazing slushies and the rides of course. I will definitely be trying to get anyone with me on the Medusa because why not..lol. After six flags, any park really will do it for me. I would love to catch up with them on life in general, then we would be on our way the next day to San Francisco city hall. I know it may sound weird,but when I first came to the state I was eager to see what it looked like in person and Now I know.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly only God. God has given me the strength and continously gives me the strength everyday. Everything I do is in hope to give glory to him. That’s my aim and for me loving God means loving the people he created. He has showed me that it is possible to love others and through his word I have started the journey of becoming a better human and portraying that through my craft in the best way I possibly can
