Risk & Reward: can you have one without the other?

By far, the topic that comes up most in our conversations with entrepreneurs and creatives is risk. We’ve had conversations about risks that worked out and risks that did not. We’ve seen eyes light eye sharing about career-trajectory changing risks as well as folks sigh about the risks they wish they had taken. Below, we’ve selected and shared some of those thoughtful conversations.

Everything you do (and don’t do) is a risk. Art and science cannot exist without someone having taken a risk. Risk is the presence of the unknown, the uncertainty of success or failure, and determined by the value you place on the end result. It’s important to acknowledge there are risks that have trivial consequences that effect the ego like someone saying “no” to you or your idea, and there are non-trivial consequences like putting your savings into a new project. I have worked hard to get to the point where I finally felt ready to go full-time on my business. Until recently I had a full time job, and would just do my business at night and weekends. This move means I have no more steady, planned income, but it also motivates me to continue to grow and promote my business.
