We had the good fortune of connecting with Lovari and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lovari, what role has risk played in your life or career?
The most riskiest things that I have done always circles back to standing up for what I believe in, and getting that point across in my product. That is where the inspiration behind the music video for my “Keep It Movin (Cancel “Cancel Culture”) arose from. To think that you can be “cancelled” in the 21st Century for having an opinion that isn’t considered the most popular one! But, sadly, as I have said many times before, history repeats itself – for better or for worse.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When I was 21, I moved out of my family’s home in Queens and rented a room on the Lower East Side of Manhattan NYC. Part of that apartment was a recording studio that I was renting to use to cut my demo. This was a difficult time for me as I was originally supposed to split the rent with somebody I was in a relationship at the time. However, they broke up with me the day that we were supposed to move in together. Now I had the responsibility to pay the full rent, instead of half, which lead me to working two jobs, sometimes 12 hour days and then at night, go to dance clubs to shop around my demo tape (yes, tape) to djs (this was pre-internet streaming), with the hopes of getting signed. About two and a half years later, I got signed for a single deal on an independent label. The song made a little buzz, but not a major impact. It wasn’t until over 17 years later that I finally got a song on the Billboard charts. Along the way, I had Top 40 songs and albums on various charts, including iTunes, but my main goal in life was to be on Billboard. This is why you can never give up on your dreams. I worked toward my goal and it took nearly 20 years, but it happened!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Venice Beach and the surrounding area. It has the vibe of the same respect towards people, regardless of your whatever your wealth status is (low income, middle class, upper class) and a melting pot of different races and genders vibing in the same peaceful harmony.

I also appreciate Laemmle NoHo 7 movie theater in North Hollywood, as it shows independent and major films under the same roof. Two movies that I had supporting roles in – “Terror Toons 4” and “Appetite For Sin” were both screened there last year.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God.
