What’s Your Why?

We asked some of the most creative folks we know to open up to us about why they chose a creative career path. Check out their responses below.

I was born in a city not far from Barcelona, known as Girona. This city has a rich artistic history as it is known for being the hometown of the legendary Salvador Dali. You can imagine its creative legacy. Growing up in such an inspiring setting allowed me to be immersed in his surreal world, where the boundaries of creativity seemed to vanish, and where the arts were held in the highest regard. I loved visiting art museums, going through classical art books and drawing during my free time. I’m deeply appreciative that I was exposed to the art world at a young age. It pretty much happened by accident, to be honest. I had been playing drums in punk rock bands that weren’t really going anywhere. I came to the conclusion I wasn’t going to be a rockstar, so, I sold my drums and used the money to start a music promotions company that focused on Celtic music. It was a great experience and went on for several years, but overall, it wasn’t fulfilling. I had doubts as to whether I wanted this to be my career path. Around this time, my wife gifted me an acrylic paint starter kit. It had some brushes, a dozen color paints, and three canvas boards. She said she bought it for me because she could tell I needed a hobby. Read more>>

Ultimately I chose a creative career path because it makes me happy. If I have to show up for and work hard at something every day then it had to be a career I felt aligned with who I am at my core. Read more>>
