Meet Angela Millan | Wedding & Event Planner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Millan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After many years of working underneath and for other wedding and event planners, I decided that I wanted to be my own boss and create my own empire. By the time I had launched Visio Events, I had been fortunate enough to be a part of over 200 weddings and events and knew that I had what it took to create my own successful planning company. I wanted to be recognized for someone who was an entrepreneur and a leader in the planning industry.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from different planners is that I treat my clients as family and don’t perceive them as just another client. I take time to know and understand those that I am planning events for because I truly believe that allows me to see their vision for the event and I execute that vision. It took a lot of overcoming adversity to get to where I am professionally. Being an entrepreneur and depending solely on clients to support your finances, it’s not easy in the beginning when you don’t have a paycheck coming in biweekly. I had to have that “all in or nothing” mentality to ensure that I would be able to supply food at the table when chasing my dream of being a business owner. I learned a lot about the industry and how other people and other business owners are not there to support you. I learned that I am the only one that will be there for myself and be loyal to my clients. I want the world to know that my brand is all in, that if we work together, I will treat you like you are the only client I am representing, and I will put endless hours in to ensure a successful event.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Crystal Cove in Laguna Beach for a beach day, and have a burger at Shake Shack. I would also take them to the Huntington Beach pier and walk around main street for some shopping. For drinks I would take them to the Tree House in Huntington Beach and then dinner at Nobu in Newport Beach for sushi on the water.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom and dad have always been supportive of me throughout my journey as a wedding and event planner and always told me to pursue my dreams. My mentor, Jennifer Supper with Kaleidoscope Weddings was a huge part of where I am today in the industry as she took me under her wing when I was an intern just in college. The Philadelphia wedding community welcomed me in with open arms, allowing me to attend networking events where I was able to flourish.
