We had the good fortune of connecting with Juliana Palacio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Juliana, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
My journey with Valeste stems from a skill that I was born with and inherited from my mother, and that is working with my hands. I always had a hobby, painting on paper, doing an oil painting, working with crafts, making bracelets, necklaces, I always preferred to do things than buy them ready-made, I just saw them and told myself that I could do them.
For many years I dedicated myself to working with small companies and startup’s and I gave up this hobby a bit, but after my daughter was born I felt the need to go back to doing things that allow me to connect with myself and allow me to relax, so in my little spare time I started to make accessories (bracelets, necklaces) for my daughter and later for my friends.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a business administrator, and I can say without a doubt that if there are companies that provide you with more personal growth, those are Startups and small companies.
For a few years I worked for Startups in the transport and financial sector and for companies in the events sector and this taught me the great value of believing in your ideas, working for them, being patient and having the determination and perseverance to do grow a company
Currently in Valeste I am the designer, artisan, the one who publishes on social media, sells, packs and delivers, but if I used to work for others, why not start doing it for my own business. So I started looking for tutorials on YouTube, see what accessories are trending and start working on it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Palm Spring and there are many places to visit in the desert, the most common if you are in spring would be the Coachella festival and the Indianwells Golf Tournament. But there are fascinating places to visit throughout the year, such as the village fest in Palm Springs every Thursday, is a street fair where you can find artisans and local food.
Another place that I can recommend is downtown Palm Springs, with restaurants, and sculptures including the famous Marylin Monroe. Visit El Paseo in Pam Desert, it is a street with shops, restaurants and galleries and I can recommend eating in restaurants like chef Tanya’s kitchen and Sherman’s Deli & Bakery.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The first person I have to thank is my husband, who absolutely believes in everything I do and who believes that I am an absolutely talented person. He is always there to support me.
My mom, from whom I can without a doubt say that she is the most creative person I know, from whom I learned many things and from whom I definitely inherited the ability to work with my hands. And finally, my daughter, because she is my drive and my motivation to do everything.
