We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Berman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eric, how do you think about long-term goals vs short term goals. What do you spend most of your time or resources on?
I am a big planner, so this helps. With that being said, time is harder to plan for long term. For my time, I am relentless with my to do lists which helps me allocate my time. I have a work to do list via Asana for my company, and I have a personal to do list using the ToDoist app. This allows me to capture every task that I can think of as new tasks/ideas/projects comes up daily and I need to place to ‘store them’ vs. in my head. It relieves my stress knowing I have a system for ensuring that nothing will get lost. I then look at my list before the day ends and moves things off my list that I don’t need to attend to next day (or even move those tasks to a future date). Then when I start the day, I look at my cleaned up list and start by prioritizing my to dos so that I can allocate my team efficiently. As far as money, I have a system of putting away a small amount of money into savings every month to ensure I am planning for the future. I also look for smart ways to invest. I do allocate some of my savings towards high risk/high reward projects and others to more conservative growth. In the short run. I try to not spend foolishly and always think of value purchases. In other words, I don’t mind spending money on things that will be used frequently, but I have hard time departing with money for a quick, one-time, purchase that may feel lavish in the moment, but is foolish in the long run (i.e. Do I need to get the best hotels, best restaurants, most expensive wines all the time? Def not!!)

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My company, Brandetize (www.brandetize.com) is a full service, performance-based, digital marketing agency. What sets us part internally is our amazing culture and what sets apart from others externally is our ability to truly partner with our clients up to a point where we are only making profits upon our clients becoming successful due to our performance model. We also love becoming an extension of our clients where we become their marketing and tech teams. I am proud of our stellar team and amazing systems of success we have built. I got to where I am by putting in a ton of hard work ever since I entered the business world – in addition, I have taken many risks where I would work for very little salary and only received compensation upon results. This hasn’t been easy, but with the right effort and confidence, it pays off. Some of the biggest lessons learned is the ability to stay focused, find the right team/partners and be willing to say ‘no’ to opportunities or clients if they don’t feel like the right fit.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
My favorite spots in the city depend a bit on the mood and interest of the group I am going out with. SD has such great diversity. I always enjoy the downtown atmosphere for some great dining, drinks and socializing. Alternatively you can’t go wrong with a visit to one of our amazing beaches in PB, Del Mar, La Jolla, or Coronado. I would be sure to mix in a good combination of both and then add some golf at one of our great courses, then mix in a nice hike! If a group were new to the city and wanted to see some of the tourist attractions, then we’d have to go visit the zoo, Balboa Park, Legoland and Seaworld!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My amazing team at Brandetize that I surround myself with. If I can find great talent and create a culture where they can flourish, then my job is easy and fun!
