We had the good fortune of connecting with Kate Woodhall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kate, what principle do you value most?
The most important value in my life and in my work is authenticity. As a teenager, I understand first-hand the struggles that come with scrolling through social media. Social media allows users to share the best parts of their life and hide the worst parts. I make sure that I am authentic and honest when sharing photos and videos so as not to contribute to the unrealistic standards that are found on social media.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started creating content on social media as a response to the constant barrage of unrealistic beauty standards. I wanted to show people the beauty in their so-called “flaws” by posting myself without filters or heavy editing. It is important to me that my social media account is not about my insecurities, but is instead about my passions, like fashion, makeup, and spending time in nature with my loved ones. Through these passions, my audience gets to know the real, authentic me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite places to grab a bite in Los Angeles are Jonah’s Kitchen, La La Land Kind Cafe, Leaff Waffles, Gyu-Kaku, In-N-Out Burger, Pancho’s Tacos, Ye Olde King’s Head, and Le Macaron. I always recommend shopping at Tazga in Santa Monica and experiencing VR at Dreamscape Immersive at the Westfield Century City mall. I love exploring the shops along Main Street, taking pottery classes at Good Dirt LA, and attending sessions at Unplugged Meditation.
Duke’s Malibu, a popular beachfront restaurant overlooking the Pacific Ocean, will always hold a special place in my heart. I worked at Duke’s during this summer and I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a supportive and loving community. Duke’s is the most incredible first job I could have imagined and I am excited to return as a customer. As of right now, Duke’s is raising money through the Legacy of Aloha Foundation to support the TS Ohana in Maui which was affected by the fires.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank all the authentic, kind, honest creators on social media. There are so many people, especially young women, who use their platform to inspire and encourage others. I also want to thank my teachers, family, and friends for supporting me and helping me to pursue my passions. Finally, I greatly appreciate the first brands I worked with, like AppleDoll, TeaCupCastle, and Merit Beauty, for giving me a chance to explore my creative side and showcase their incredible products.
