Meet Adam Mai | Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam Mai and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adam, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success has always been my “Why”. This has definitely changed over time and I have seen different levels of success and this has been the key impact of my success today. As a young adult, my “Why” was not the same as today. I looked for prestige and recognition as any young adult would as they grew up in a business orientated environmental like mine. My family highly pushed their children to follow in the path of becoming a respected practitioner (Doctor, Lawyer, etc.) and for a short period of time I wanted this as well as I thought this was something that bring me prestige and success.
This became my “Why” at that time and this drove me to finding my first passion, which is the desire for knowledge. I find information the key to understanding everything in life. There was never enough of it and I could never stop getting enough of it. This desire did have its obstacles as I would find myself not as motivated when I was unable to find teachers and coaches that would be able to stimulate me.
I began to understand how to use my “Why” as a stronger motivator by fine tuning the reason. I kept using ones that was not true to me and it eventually unmotivated me. The day I chose to make my family my “Why”, everything changed. The goal continued to expand, and the possibilities were limitless. It was not just about a dollar amount that I was targeting, it expanded to time and focus that I would be able to provide as well. I focused on building the proper skill set to master these different parts in my life to provide, to be present, to enjoy my life with them, and the list just became endless.
What should our readers know about your business?
I have several businesses in various industries but the passion project between my wife and I is our gym in Long Beach. We both have a love for fitness and sports throughout our entire lives and when we met we spoke about a dream of owning our own facility one day. I used this as an opportunity to make our dreams come true when we stumbled across a business model that allowed us not only to own our own facility but also to provide us a platform where we can help other pursue their dreams of being an business owner for themselves.
The dream faced many obstacles as we started the process by the signing the lease weeks before the announcement of the pandemic and its closures of the cities. We knew it was not going to be easy and we continued to push through every step of the way. We had delays and obstacles to overcome every step of the way. We did not know what the future held for us but through perseverance we were able to open a Self Made Training Facility in the city of Long Beach during the pandemic and were voted the number #1 gym in the city for every year its been open.
The idea of failure was not an option and we never gave up so every obstacle just became another step in the process. We piled up the tasks and the items stacked against us and we overcame them one at a time. In our minds, the decision was already made and there was no turning back.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The city of Long Beach holds a special place for me, but I also live in Orange County. I feel blessed to be able to live in what I believe in the best place to live in all of the United States. I would invite my friends to participate in sporting events in Los Angeles, explore the Aquarium and food that Long Beach had to offer, and end it with the beach life in Orange County (Newport, Corona Del Mar, etc.).
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There is a long list of people who have made me who I am today. I would not be here without my mentor and friends who I call my family or tribe. My mother and sister for always showing me unconditional love and letting me know I was worth someone’s care and time. My wife and kids for being my “North Star” and always guiding me through my journey in life.
These people in my life have become the key foundation to my success and growth.
