Meet Jamie Fryrear | President of San Diego Track Club

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Fryrear and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, what inspires you?
I’m inspired by anyone who laces up and sets their mind to running, whether around the block or to the start line of a marathon. The elated look in a runner’s eye when they’ve hit their pace, time, or goal moves me. Leading a board of passionate runners who volunteer their time to keep the San Diego Track Club, a non-profit organization with over 800 members, successful and moving forward both challenges and inspires me. The coaches that give their time and heart to our running community also motivate me to do my best and give my all to this community.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One common denominator I share with the other board members is we all want to give back to San Diego Track Club because it has given so much to us. We volunteer our time to make sure others in our running community can find the same thing we have found here. Just like with training for a marathon, you can’t do it without the support of family and friends. Leading a large non-profit organization, can’t be done without the support of the board, coaches, and the members. It’s not always easy, but challenges are something running has given me a lot of experience with. One tough run has lessons, just like one awesome run has lessons. I get back what I put in whether it’s running or volunteering. I take both seriously.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First of all, there would be no Ubers or Lyfts, we’re runners. Leaving the airport, we would run past Harbor Island and then head to Mission Bay, run the loop, and end up at Belmont Park roller coaster. Since my friend is visiting, I can assume they’re here to run a marathon with me. First, we’ll hit up the Spaghetti Factory in downtown for an early carb loaded dinner. We will need to be in bed by 7pm though. For drinks, we’ll swing by Milestone Running Shop in North Park for some Vitalyte #stayhydrated. Once the run is over, we’ll stop by DZ Akins for a club sandwich, fries, and shake. We’ve scheduled massages for the following day with High IQ Massage. Nothing beats having your legs worked on after running 26.2 miles. On our way to the airport, we’ll make a pitstop into Fleet Feet for a foam roller to take on the plane. I love it when my friends visit!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
San Diego Track Club! I would not be where I am today without the amazing mentors and friends I’ve met in this organization.
