We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Schima and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
While growing up, like most young girls, image seemed to be everything. Second guessing your outfit choice, your makeup, what brand back pack you wore to school, always trying to be the ” cool girl.” I felt all that and more. I struggled with medical issues that caused severe weight problems for me my entire life. So on top of trying to fit in, I had to push harder because I was always embarrassed of my weight. Being 6’2″ and over weight, I stood out as a female. I had my fair struggles of bullying and torment, but I always pushed through and tried my hardest to just be myself. For me, being myself was not very hard. I am very positive, confident, and have knack for making those around me feel uplifted. I started doing makeup at a very young age. Initially, to myself so I could “fit in,” then to friends on the weekends practicing my skills, to doing makeup for Proms and Graduations. I loved it. I loved making women feel beautiful. Now here I was, I graduated high school and fell out of touch with my makeup practice. I found myself working in Construction, wondering what was going to be out there for me. I wanted to feel fulfilled and happy in my line of work. Fast forward to 3 years ago. I started my Permanent Makeup journey after taking my mom to her Microblading appointment. I was fascinated by it. I knew in that moment that I was sitting in her appointment for a reason. My vision became very clear and I knew I had my career in front of me. I completed my Nano Brow training and got to work. From the moment I meet a client, my goal is to make them comfortable, happy, and most importantly, feel good about themselves. I know I stated before that while your a young girl image seems to be everything, but as I have gotten older, I realize that feeling never goes away. I have the pleasure of spending hours with some of the most incredible women. Talking, laughing, learning about them and their lives, and as much as there is good, there is bad too. I get to hear their insecurities and personal doubts they have about themselves, they really open up. I love the fact that I can be that person for these incredible women. We all have good in our lives, but no one ever listens about that bad.

I specialize in Nano Brow Permanent Makeup. You don’t usually wake up one morning and think, “I’m going to get permanent eyebrows today.” It’s something that takes thought, consideration, and research. When I get a booking request, I always call that client. I want them to hear my voice, my tone, my explanation of the Nano Brow process, and answer any questions they may have. My biggest thing, is letting them feel my personality over the phone. I want them to hear the care and love I have in my voice for them and this big decision they are going to make. I want them to know they aren’t a number, they aren’t just another person. They are in good hands with someone who genuinely cares and will listen to them and what they want.

I believe every single women should feel confident in themselves. In this crazy world, sometimes it’s hard to find that, but they are beautiful, graceful, and that needs to be shown. Take it from me, the big girl in school who still knew she was meant for more.

The biggest factor behind my success is my ability to be my client’s safe haven. I have laughed with clients, cried with clients, and become friends with so many. For me, It’s not only about being their eyebrow artist. Its about being able to interact in such a loving manner. It’s like therapy, except I get to also give you the eyebrows of your dreams.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is different than the traditional pen/brush to paper. My heart goes into my work and the clients I perform my creations on. I am proud of myself for really stepping out of my comfort zone to get to where I am at. Taking my artistic abilities and being able to help women feel better about themselves brings me so much joy. I get excited every time I have a new client come in. That means a new face, a new design, a new person to get to know and listen to their wants. I get excited when I get the oppurtunity to create my client’s vision, while incorporating my professional take. Working together with my clients, designing a unique and completely one-of-a-kind pattern for each individual is thrilling. I never know exactly what the next day or next client will bring I love it.

Getting to where I am today has taken more courage and hard work than I could have ever thought. I am on my own, pushing for more, trying to get my name out there and building a brand for myself. Always practicing and working on my technique, going to trainings and conventions as often as possible, virtual learning experiences, brainstorming with others in the industry. It’s not easy. But I know that I am doing this for myself and for my future. I have a lot of pep talks with myself when I start feeling discouraged. I look back at where I started and how much drive I had to get to where I am, and that gets me right back up and moving.

The lessons I’ve learned along the way are as deep as the ocean. Learning how to really connect with people in a short amount of time, knowing there are so many other people out there providing your same services, learning how to be confident enough to not sit behind the scenes any more and how to show up for myself and my clients.

I would want the world to know that my brand, my story, who I am and what I can provide is unique. I am an artist, I am a person, I am a women who believes she can conquer the world, while I also believe every woman can to. We can stand together. If you can’t tell by now I am a women’s women. You are coming to me for a reason. Maybe you liked my work. Maybe you liked my photos. Maybe you met me out and about and we clicked and now your sitting in my chair getting your brows done. I am constantly told by clients that they enjoyed their experience with me. They sit up from the table looking at a new version of themselves. Some cry, most are overjoyed with their new look, but in the end all I want to see is radiance leaving the salon. More than that, my favorite part is knowing I just made a friend and so did they. I cant tell you how many times I have a random client come in and by the end of the appointment they are asking to do a Girl’s Night. What I do isn’t just about brows. Yes, That’s what clients expect and of course that’s what they get, but its always so much more meaningful than that. You know that saying, “right place at the right time?” I can genuinely tell you that every single client I have had on my table has been there for a purpose.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was to visit from out of town, I would immediately start our first day near my salon in Old Town Temecula. We would hit the Swing Inn Cafe and have a yummy breakfast before hitting Front Street and shopping at all the Boutiques. Most likely after that it would be a winery day! Probably rent a Volkswagen Vanboozy and have them take us around with the top off to all our favorite wineries. After a fun filled day of wine, we would probably splurge and have dinner and stay a night or two at Europa Village Resort enjoying the gorgeous scenery. On our way out of Temecula, I would book us a cabana at the Bottaia Winery Pool and enjoy a couple fruity drinks and a charcuterie board. Heading back to my home base, Canyon Lake, we would keep the outdoor vibes going. Heading out for a round of golf, or a day on the boat. Having dinner at my usual spot the Canyon Cowboy. It’s my favorite because It’s local and I can cruise my golf cart there. The most fun things to check out are all the mom & pop restaurants/bars.. That is where you also meet the coolest most interesting people.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to the Women who have trusted me with their eyebrows and heart. These women have allowed me to use my creative abilities to enhance their eyebrows and give them the confidence they desired. Meeting women of all ages, ethnicities, different backgrounds has really been the biggest blessing, and I am so Thankful to know them.
