We had the good fortune of connecting with Nathanael Linquist and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nathanael, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I would like to say that I am the figure behind my own Brand (Elysian Fitness) and Non-Profit (MUNGU ACADEMY) but the truth is that I am merely a vessel. The only thing I have that has guided me is a passion and desire to make an impact in the short time I have on earth. But everything else is attributed to God’s guidance and opportunities that He has granted me. He put me in situations that I needed to be put in to grow. He sent me to Uganda for my entire childhood to give me a fresh perspective on life. And every time I needed help and prayed for it, He sent me the right people at the right time to come pick me up and show me what I need to do. So God is the most important factor behind my success, without Him I would be sitting in the mud.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am the CEO of Elysian Fitness, and 360 degress wellness brand whose aim is to find the balance between Mind, Body, and Spirit. That comes in the form of Physical training for all ages and levels of the fitness spectrum, education on nutrition and how what we eat affects who we are, and mindset and habit building. I am looking more so for people to change who they are on the inside. Physiaclly aethestic is great, but I beleive this is a by product of changing internally and building a strong and STEADFAST mindset. This is where I differ from many other trainers, whose goal is purely physical. I have always had problems with beleiving in my self-worth, and while working out was amazing and tranforming my body felt good, it wasn’t the end all. I needed a mindset shift to feel true joy. I am still working on this, but I want to use my knowledge and character to help others find true joy in life.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I like this question. Lets plan this out. Straight from the airport to Taco Stand in La jolla. Spend the day around there, go snorkeling in the Cove.
Take them to the San Diego Zoo forsure, I love that place, would not take them to SeaWorld, I don’t love that place.
I love food so would need to take them to the following places: Hummus Gyros in Ocean Beach, Dunedin in Northpark, UnderBelly in Little Italy, James Coffee in Little Italy, Muzita Ethiopian Food in University heights, WaterFront Bar in Little italy, Its Raw Poke in Ocean Beach, etc. I could go on, these are some of my favorites.
Would take them surfind forsure, probably at Ocean Beach and Del Mar, would go out for a night in PB, Little Italy.
Rent some bikes in Solana Beach and cruise around. Play volleyball with them with my friends on the bay.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The people who I somehow have been put around throughout my life. My family always taught me virtue and morals and the love of God, my friends always pushed me to be better and stay focused. My wife, Lauryn has shown me how to rest, keep peace of mind, and be patient. Everyone knows something I don’t, and I try to keep that in mind when meeting people. The book “Outliers” was a book I picked up when I was a kid and started reading and decided I wanted to be somehow who went agasint the grain of the “norm” regardless of what people thought. It also showed me that hard work can take me far, but without the right people near you, you won’t ever succeed.
