Meet Theresa Rusell | Intentional organizer & future therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Theresa Rusell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Theresa, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Sustainability and community are two of our core values. HomeGirl repurposes items from our declutter and donate service to local businesses who are actively involved in supporting the environment. It is important to us that when a client lets something go it will not be sitting in a landfill. Our big vision is to help others find housing and creating free resources for those in need.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
HomeGirl has evolved so much from where it started. Initially, it was about making the home look nice to have that Pinterest perfect feel. Over time I realized that in order to STAY organized it is about your home habits and attachments. Taking time to reflect on why you might have trouble letting things go even when you don’t use them. This is where the other modalities I have learned such as therapy, reiki, and inner child healing add support. Your home is more than just a physical house. It is also your mind, body, and soul.
Reflecting on it now, it was really my own transformation and growth that pivoted this change. I had a problem with alcohol for years. In 2022, I stopped drinking. I never realized how much I was avoiding my feelings or practically anything uncomfortable. Once I was honest with myself, everything changed for the better.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh man! This would be so different if you had asked me a few years ago. Again, back to the drinking haha. San Diego has so many delicious restaurants. It would depend on the friend and the vibe. Sunset cliffs is a must! Ocean Beach is my happy place. As far as food, balboa bar and grill for burgers- so yummy! I know some will want to fight me for not saying Rocky’s (they are legit too). Mission Hills for gelato! Ohh and brunch is a must. Farmer’s Bottega and Dunedin are two of my top choices.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am dedicating my shoutout to my fiancé. He has provided me with so much support. Not only in terms of building an online presence (he owns a multimedia company- Gray Space) but he is always encouraging me to push through when things feel tough.
