We had the good fortune of connecting with Takatoshi Osada and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Takatoshi, why did you pursue a creative career?Because I had nothing. Ever since I was a child, I have been clumsy, indifferent, and insensitive. not good at talking to people I think there were many misunderstandings due to a lack of communication skills.

Even so, I was really happy that the people who cared about me were happy to see my work.
And even if I didn’t win the competition, I was able to continue until now because there were people who were happy even if I wasn’t evaluated by many people.

I’m not very good at drawing and I’m still inexperienced, but I have my own ruler that is not influenced by other evaluations and I believe in it.

It’s just my personal feeling. To others, this may seem like self-satisfaction, but for me, art is also about staying healthy, and it’s like a switch. It comes suddenly. When I’m making art or linking with someone with a creative shared art story, I feel something has been activated in my brain. It’s very similar to feeling like you’re surfing with the best wave. I feel a great sense of accomplishment when my work is completed. That’s why I want to continue doing art for the rest of my life.

And, I want to incorporate the greatness and beauty of nature that I learned through surfing too.
When I enter the sea, I can realize how small I am and the difference in scale. I’m not good at surfing, but I like surfing.
Small worries can be forgotten after standing on a good wave and finishing riding the wave.
Feel nature on your skin and at the same time
I also feel that there is a change in my mental state.
The waves never come the same and they are sometimes violent and sometimes beautiful, and I think the scenery of the sunrise and sunset is very beautiful. I love the sea and beach culture.

I want to leave as many of my wave illustrations as possible on this earth and convey the joy of surf art to future generations.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One of the features of my work is the original billowy object.

Foods, beverages, desserts, cheeses, etc. that contain a lot of water are the main targets. I can create illustrations that make them look like waves.

Then, add an illustration that expresses related buildings, symbols, and culture to complete a unique illustration.

In the future, while making wave art, I would like to increase the number of mascots, patterns, and logos that I am good at.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I recommend a surf trip to the north and south of California’s surf spots. Enjoy surfing and skateboarding, and enjoy fresh local seafood and vegetables. Local cuisine, seafood, burgers, and tacos are also great.
I was born in a land surrounded by mountains and grew up in a land where I could walk on the beach and feel the sea breeze when I was a child. My personal experience in California is that it is a wonderful place where nature is moderately preserved from top to bottom, where you can play in the mountains and sea, and enjoy delicious food, fresh vegetables, and fruits.
