Meet Diana Webster | Comic Writer/Creator and Animal Advocate

We had the good fortune of connecting with Diana Webster and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diana, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
For my animal advocacy organization, there was a desperate need for animal care services that I wanted to provide and organize.
For my comic strip, we all need to laugh more and be inspired so I created fun, humorous, and uplifting characters and had them get into crazy adventures.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Along with animal advocacy, I also have two comic strips that I created and write with a gifted artist, Antonio Garcia: who lives in Mexico. Together we are the X-Beehive Creatives and our tagline is: Art that Buzzes! Our strips are Bigfoot Millennials and Duckie LaGoo-Native Cat Guy.
I got the idea for Bigfoot Millennials right before the pandemic after my friend’s dad was talking to me about being a bigfoot hunter and I said, hmmmm, I wonder what modern Bigfoots would be like? And that was the start.
For Duckie LaGoo-Native Cat Guy, the idea came from meeting lots of really awesome cat guys at cat conventions around the country. There’s a special breed of cat lovers out there that are so fun and committed to their cats!
We set out to tell stories about the common challenges of everyday life as experienced by our characters that people can relate to. It’s a challenge to tell a story in 4 cartoon panels but it also makes you understand that simple storytelling can be incredibly powerful.
With social media, it’s a challenge to get eyeballs on our work but it’s also an incredible opportunity to share what we create. We just try to continue improving our stories and our art so we can make more people laugh!
We also explore the theme of being yourself and not caring what the heck the world thinks of you. Not in the selfish sense but in really owning who you are. Bigfoots are considered a rumor or a myth so they don’t fit in with the rest of the world but our characters, Yellow Bird Yeti and Saskie Tso don’t really care about fitting in. They are just unapologetically themselves. With Duckie, cats are his jam.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Beach time in Hermosa and Redondo, watching the volleyball games, eating breakfast or lunch at Martha’s Hermosa Beach. Chilling on the sand and people watching. Any activities that are outside in the beautiful Cali sunshine and away from the traffic.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I value creativity, kindness, and commitment! My friend, Diana Moore, from the Urban Cat Squad brings all these qualities together and I get an energy burst seeing how she makes the world a better place for homeless cats.
