Meet Jillie Reil | Standup Comedian known as THE Cougar of Comedy®

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jillie Reil and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jillie, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
One of the most important things for a comedian is finding your voice and point of view. In order to relate to an audience, you have to know who you are and why you are sharing the things you share. Realizing early on that I wanted to zero in on the essence of what it means to identify as a “cougar” (a women that prefers to date younger men), the writing became easier. Also, once I discovered my voice and brand, legally trademarking THE Cougar of Comedy® has been invaluable.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I always loved acting, comedy, dance, writing and the creative arts since childhood. Growing up in rural Minnesota, I was encouraged to get into business and let that go as an adult. Once I turned 30, I knew something was missing. You can never ignore your creative heart. I originally moved to San Diego to attend law school, but I could not ignore the creative vibe of California. I was re-inspired. I ended up exploring makeup artistry, which quickly led me back to modeling, commercials, acting, writing and comedy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take her on a sailboat ride around the San Diego bay, the beach in Coronado, the Children’s Pool in La Jolla, Balboa Park, wine tasting in Temecula, coffee at Pappalecco in Little Italy, dinner and drinks at Mister A’s in Bankers Hill, and standup comedy wherever I am performing.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I credit my father, Glen, with much of my success. He raised me with humor and the love of comedy and has supported me all along the way.
