Meet Coco Monét | Fashion Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Coco Monét and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Coco, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
When I first started 14 years ago here in San Diego, all I mainly had on my mind was couture. I had that “game plan”mindset that I will be the next Coco Chanel, a high fashion designer, and being apart of the continuous strivation of the fashion industry. It then elevated to other fashion statements, like handbags, corsets, bras, and many more. Today in my career, Lady Satori has explored and opened new doors for today’s fashion with the consolidation to the medical world by providing stylish bras/corsets for our breast cancer warriors. The condition itself is overwhelming and can bring one’s self esteem to a minimum low, but with our outerwear specifically designed for our patients, they’ll be able to strut with high confidence and the ability to have a care-free mindset of their diagnosis. Once my certification through the Board is obtained, Lady Satori will offer paramedical Areola reconstructing tattooing in our boutique, along with our products for the community that will also be covered by the major health insurance providers, and possibly along with the FDA’s approval. With these steps in action, I believe the community, especially our mastectomy patients will feel greatly appreciated and endure the fact that they are never alone, will always be loved, and treated equally here at Lady Satori.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Lady Satori is an art and a business all in one. We provide the most authentic clothing and creativity for our customers to indulge in and have a sense of belonging no matter the circumstance. I would say I am most proud of myself and the constant growth as a person that allows me to pour my all into Lady Satori and everything it stands for. The course of action that was taken to get where I am today professionally entails 3 years of schooling for Fashion Design. Post graduation, I was a tailoress for different designers, continuously learning the ropes and soaking in any bit of knowledge I can receive. Additionally, I had two wonderful mentors, Kristi Brooks and Dajahn Belvins, who counseled me on becoming the best version of myself and providing a persistent reminder that what I do is a passion towards a greater goal. I believe anything that requires extensive, hard work isn’t easy at all but keeping a positive mindset and having an amazing support team overcame the hardships and to this day, I have that same belief. Just putting forth the hard work and ensuring dedication towards myself evolved the designer and courageous woman I am today and will continue to be.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
San Diego is beautiful and has many fun attractions all around. First, I would bring her/him to the historical Balboa Park and San Diego Zoo, then to the Horton Plaza Mall at Gaslamp District and Seaport Village for some fun retail therapy. I would also take her/him out to Anthony’s Fish grotto Restaurant for tasty food, drinks & good vibes. San Diego is such a huge tourist city, so no matter what you into I feel you can a few attractions you would definitely enjoy.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Overall my entire career, I would like to dedicate a special shout out to my parents (R.I.P.) for continually motivating and reminding me that this was more than just a hobby to me. Lady Satori is a passion. Next would be to my beautiful kids, who are my endless motivation to keep going if there is a stressful day in the industry. I love you guys! My mentor, Dajahn Blevins, founder of the San Diego Urban Warriors, would be next. He is amazing and a great influence when it comes to our youth and just being a never ending supporter to Lady Satori and I. Last but not least, I want to shout out my family and friends in San Diego and Louisiana, and to my San Diego community, let’s continue to uplift each other and strive to pursue the advancement of making fashion the world’s biggest statement!
