Where are you from and how has it impacted you?

Even if you are from the same neighborhood as someone else, you might still be coming from different places. Where you are from is a complicated question and it elicits complicated, but interesting and thought-provoking responses. We’ve shared some of those responses below.

I was born in California from an immigrant family that had very little understanding of how America worked. I was raised with American culture from TV, video games, & movies and had to develop an identity on my own through the lenses of The Simpsons, Mad TV, Final Fantasy 7, and the chaos of the internet. I grew up in Orange County California in a multiethnic(European-Mexican) household with my parents and older brother, younger sister and our dogs and cats. We group in a marginalized community where there was financial inequities and lack of resources. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 3 which made me aware how precious life is and in ways made me grow up a bit faster because of it . Read more>>
