What was your thought process behind starting your own business?

Starting a business is a commitment and requires dedication, resources and sacrifice. We asked some of the rising stars in our community how they thought through the idea of starting their own businesses.

I started thrifting and antiquing when I was in my early 20s. I had my own apartment for the first time at the age of 23 years old in downtown Charleston WV just a half a block from the capitol. The thought process behind starting our own business, The Salon Chair Guys, was primarily driven by the desire to address a gap in the salon and barber industry. We noticed a lack of reliable beauty equipment service and repair providers, and we wanted to offer a solution that would benefit salon and barber professionals. Read more>>

I decided I wanted to pursue photography full time after my children were born. Prior to being a photographer I was happily married and working as an elementary school teacher. When I became pregnant, with my first child, I became obsessed with planning photoshoots. Read more>>

The main driver was to be in control of my own destiny and remove any restrictions and limitations that come with working for someone else. As I was building my career I couldn’t see myself continuing on that path for the long haul; that was not my purpose and was not going to fulfill me. Read more>>

Unlike most chiropractic offices, where patients are in and out the door in a few minutes, I wanted to have an office where I get to know each one of my patients and create a treatment plan that best suites the individual patients needs. I believe in taking a holistic approach to health and wellness, so I take into consideration all aspects of the patients life when I create a customized plan. Read more>>
