We had the good fortune of connecting with Zina Alahmad and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As I am working in the beauty industry, as an esthetician and a free lance makeup artist, my main goal was to enhance ones natural beauty and help make them feel comfortable in their own skin.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
It was not all easy. Luckily I had a great support system at home to help give me the push I needed to to start what I have started. I bought all the stuff I needed to start my business all on my own. It was hard at first to build clientele, which was somewhat discouraging at first, feeling like I failed myself. But luckily I kept myself strong and worked hard enough to build strong relationships with people enough to make them my clients and help kick start my business. So one thing I would tell everyone is to not give up. Keep going, even if you feel like you are failing.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in San Diego (America’s finest city), were knows for our amazing beaches. So definitely would take them to go swimming at one of my favorite beaches which is Del Mar. After I’d like to take them to a place in La Jolla called The Marine Room, a great place to get seafood along with a spectacular view of the waves crashing against the windows at high tide. Another favorite thing to do is go visit our malls, such as UTC in La Jolla great shopping places great coffee shops and great dining all in one place. Another place that is a must visit is our amusement park, sea world. As for night life I’d definitely take them to downtown San Diego and go to my favorite, Altitude Sky Lounge, which sits on the rooftop of the Marriott hotel in the gas lamp area, overlooking petco park.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First I’d like to thank my parents for supporting me throughout the whole process. Another person is my husband, who also encouraged me to do what I love and go for it.
