We had the good fortune of connecting with Zane Hampton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zane, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is important and is navigated by fear, it is the second step after making a decision and the only way to achieving your goals. In my life I have designed my mindset to chasing the sensation of fear which leads to high risk situations, where personally I find a mixture of failure and success. The only way to succeed is to have first made the attempt, but before the attempt there has to be the decision to take the risk of failing. Without taking the risk I wouldn’t have failed, and without those countless failures I would not have become a nominated and award winning director. My view on risk is that it is a necessary tool in turning your dreams and desires into realities.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My style has been grown literally from the ground up. With no real assistance, mentorship, or really any access to anyone with relevant experience I started my filmmaking career with a motivating girlfriend. I had wanted to shoot something and try it but continued to cower away from the fear of failing. She was the one who convinced me to try when the Colorado meth project had released a competition for a short commercial. We shot it, it was selected for the festival, and since then my dedication to continuing and making my filmmaking experience exceed expectations has become a complete obsession. Nothing has halted me and for 8 years I have gone from having a few lamps and a cell phone, to collecting film equipment now allowing me to shoot professionally easier. My style is cultivated from nothing else but trial and error, exploring creativity More so in how to actually film the project rather than what the project is. All of that has formed my style into something very unique. I am incredibly proud of the work I have done and continue to do, and in my confidence that no matter what is in the room or what equipment I have… if there’s a camera in my hands I can and will make a movie.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The streets of LA on a nice cruise in the evening is the lifeblood of a good time during a visit. Just driving and experiencing the various artwork, the unique stores and locations, passing the famous sound stages, and reacting to wild and memorable city characters in the streets, is an experience I would gladly take anyone. My personal favorite places are near the sound stages, going around paramount is something that sets an exciting flame in your veins, especially if you see someone dressed in a dragon costume. Other places would be the plethora of food trucks or the super unique eatery in Anaheim the packing district. Literally packed in with various restaurants and all types of food, it’s a hungry belly’s favorite place for sure!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person most deserving of a shout out is the upcoming next big thing Drew “Hollywood” Lopez. Born in New Mexico but living in Phoenix Arizona, Drew is an actor and a Boxing Trainer as well as an amateur boxing competitor. When he’s not on a film set, he’s training people in the art of boxing from all age groups. On the side of his busy schedule from helping those in his communities, you can find him motivating children at the local church and constantly chasing his dreams while inspiring others. The man is dedicated, humble, and someone to truly look out for.
