We had the good fortune of connecting with Zain Hussain and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zain, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Inspiration and Motivation: “My journey as an entrepreneur began during my undergrad years while studying biochemistry. I was juggling my studies with tutoring to make ends meet, and soon I found myself overwhelmed with more students than I could handle. That’s when it hit me: why not turn this into a business? I had no prior knowledge about starting a business, but I was determined to learn. I taught myself everything from building a website to marketing, all through resources like YouTube. This was the birth of Einstein Tutoring.”

Identifying a Need: “I noticed a significant gap in the tutoring market – most services were overpriced and tied down with rigid contracts. I wanted to offer something different: flexible, affordable tutoring solutions. My aim was to provide not just tutoring in various subjects but also free resources and guidance through the daunting college admission process, offering both virtual and in-person options.”

Personal Connection: “Education has always been a passion of mine. After completing my bachelor’s in biochemistry, I went on to pursue a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. With over eight years of teaching experience, I’ve learned that effective education is not just about subject expertise but also about understanding and adapting to different learning styles. This philosophy is at the core of how I train my staff at Einstein Tutoring.”

Vision and Goals: “My long-term vision for Einstein Tutoring is to expand beyond our current client base and partner with both public and private schools. I want to reach students who lack support at home, especially those who are first or second-generation students, and help them take the next step after high school.”

Challenges and Solutions: “The pandemic brought new challenges, with a sudden increase in competition in the tutoring sector. To stay relevant, we focused on collaborating with school districts, offering enrichment courses, and providing free reading courses for elementary students. Adapting to these changes was crucial for our survival and growth.”

Impact and Contribution: “My goal is to empower students to understand that they can achieve a quality education regardless of their socioeconomic background. I’m working towards partnering with state and educational institutions to help subsidize costs for students. I believe the most valuable tool we can teach is resourcefulness – helping students find and use the right tools for their success.”

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What Sets Einstein Tutoring Apart: “At Einstein Tutoring, what truly sets us apart is our family-owned and operated approach. We treat each client as a unique individual, rather than offering a one-size-fits-all service. Our philosophy is centered around understanding and meeting the specific needs and expectations of our clients. I personally make it a point to speak with each of our clients and students to understand their goals for the tutoring sessions. Regular check-ins and a commitment to quality service are integral to our approach. We recognize that every student learns differently, and we strive to match our students with tutors who complement their individual learning styles.”

Pride and Excitement: “One of our proudest achievements has been our successful partnership with a school district, providing free tutoring services to students from lower-income backgrounds. This initiative is something that excites us greatly, and we are looking forward to expanding these partnerships to more communities. Our focus isn’t limited to subject tutoring; we’re also passionate about offering enrichment opportunities and college assistance, making a comprehensive impact on students’ educational journeys.”

Lessons Learned: “A key lesson we’ve learned is that matching students with the right tutor doesn’t always happen perfectly on the first try. What’s important is how we handle these situations, learn from them, and continue to grow. This approach has been crucial in our commitment to providing exceptional services and continuously improving our offerings.”

Personal Brand and Story: “While I may not be an Einstein myself, I firmly believe that every student has the potential to channel their inner Einstein. The possibilities are endless with the right guidance and tools. My personal journey, from overcoming challenges as a student to becoming an entrepreneur, reflects the values and beliefs at the core of Einstein Tutoring. We’re not just here to teach; we’re here to provide the tools and guidance that open up a world of opportunities for our students.”

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My journey to where I am today has been significantly shaped by the most influential person in my life: my mother. As a single mom working tirelessly with two jobs to raise my sibling and me, she was the epitome of strength and resilience. Her dedication to ensuring we had a good life was unparalleled. Despite her busy schedule, she always found time to empower us, instilling in us the belief that nothing is out of reach and the importance of always being inquisitive.

From a young age, she taught me a valuable lesson: the importance of asking questions. She would say, ‘The worst someone can say is no, but if you don’t ask, you’ll never know the answer.’ This mindset has been a guiding principle in my life and career.

Another fundamental lesson she imparted was the value of education. She believed that education is one thing that nobody can take away from you, and she always encouraged us to bet on ourselves. Her dream was to see her children pursue higher education, and she succeeded marvelously, raising two pharmacists.

But for me, it wasn’t just about achieving professional success; it was about transcending it. Inspired by my mother’s teachings and her dream, I wanted to be known not just as a pharmacist but as someone who empowers students and shares a story of hope and resilience. My mother’s life and lessons taught me that your background should not dictate your future. This belief is at the core of Einstein Tutoring and everything I strive to achieve through it.”
