We had the good fortune of connecting with Yelena Brezhneva-Horton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yelena, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
Everyone said treat others as you want to be treated. I don’t believe it’s true. Actually quite the opposite, it means you didn’t take time to learn more about your client, what are their likes and dislikes, what are their preferences….

It’s time for people to realize that our needs and desires do not necessarily reflect the needs and desires of others. I say, take time asking more questions, learn about their background. Inquire about future plans. Your goal is to see how you can meet your client’s needs. Take that person to a place that he would love, see the joy on another person’s face and know you did it right!

What should our readers know about your business?

Starting your own business:

Starting your own business sounds great but I know it’s not meant for everyone. It depends on your personality, lifestyle, expectations and goals. A lot of people are used to having a 9-5 job with a guaranteed paycheck. When you are an entrepreneur you have 12-hours a day shift, no day offs or vacations, until you establish your business. Your income is not guaranteed and you need to have financial support till you get on your feet and sometimes it might take years. I wouldn’t quit your day job to jump into your own business yet. It would be great to start it on the weekends, perfect your formula till it starts making money and then you can scale it.

Most successful people are driven and motivated on the inside and this would be the best decision for these people. If you are a person that needs to be told what to do or expect immediate results, you are setting yourself for a failure.

What habits help you succeed?

I think success means different things to different people. Many people are lost behind the numbers. I believe that our true nature just wants us to be happy and we identify success with happiness. If we realize that success is the happiness of doing what you love and love what you are doing more people would be considered successful. What a great joy to find your calling in life, to find what you love to do, what you are good at and be able to make money doing what you love! I think this is the ultimate definition of success! So, in order for you to be successful you need to know who you are, what makes you happy and it will be your inner guide to take you there. If you are in the business only to make money and do not truly enjoy it, you’ll be drained, you’ll burn out, you’ll be sick and at the end it will cause more harm to you and your health. Finding your passion is rule #1 to be successful. Staying organized is rule #2, it’s very easy to be distracted with life, so you need to keep your eyes always on your goal. Learning to prioritize is rule #3! To be the most effective in any business you need to prioritize all the times and do it automatically, it has to be on your autopilot! We constantly get a list of TO DO things but what is the most important? What can wait and what needs to be done right away? Ability to identify it in a heartbeat will take you the long way. And rule #4 – you need support or a team of people that are on the same page with you. Those who understand your goal and vision are important as you move forward. You’ve got to surround yourself with people that are your biggest fans, that will be there for you when you make mistakes, so you could learn from it and will keep going.

Work life balance. What do you think about the balance?

One of the most important things in life is The Balance! No matter what we do, no matter where we work, this is the most neglected area for most people. Balance is the ultimate Yin and Yang. Since ancient times we were taught if a balance between Yin and Yang is disturbed our bodies get sick! How many successful people do we know that are sick or have mental illnesses like depression or worse? A lot, almost every 2nd person is struggling with physical challenges! The stress is the silent killer! Work and life balance is a key, without it we’ll ultimately get sick and would be very unhappy individuals.

Our brains have right and left hemispheres, the left is more analytical and is dealing with numbers and details and the right brain is more artistic and about beauty and pleasure. We need to make sure both hemispheres are engaged to achieve balance in life. If you don’t use your right brain, you’ll lose zest for life and will burn down! You must schedule right brain activities in your life just like you schedule your work. You must take trips to nature and reconnect with the earth, with the sum, with the winds! You must schedule time for your kids and wife to do something new and different every month! Right brain activities will help you feel happy and give your life meaning. You are here on earth not just to pay bills. You are here to be happy and to share your happiness with your family and children. We are here to teach our children how to be happy by discovering your passion, by discovering love! Love is the most important emotion that gives you energy! Love of self, love of your family, love for your kids, love for your pets, love of nature, love of art…. Love of life! When you live a balanced life, you wake up happy and full of energy and excitement for the day. You enjoy discovering every new day and what it brings! When you are in balance you are in love with life itself! Scheduling is a key, to achieve work and life balance you must schedule fun stuff. My favorite mantra would be: increase your fun by 20% and your effectiveness will grow by 80%.

What is the most important lesson you have learned from your business?

I’d say that learning about the 80/20 principle was the most important one. If you’ve never heard of it, make sure to take your time to learn about it! It’s the Pareto principle, “ everything in the world falls between these ratios:”

– 80/20 rule says that 80% of results you have are because of 20% of effort you make and the rest 80% of efforts – give you only 20% of results!

– 80/20 rule says that 20% of agents generate 80% of business!

– It says that 80% of wealth in the world is in the hands of 20% of people.

I think if we learn that 20% of what we do brings 80% of results and focus on that and do just that, we’d be much happier and much more balanced people that are able to enjoy life and be happy!
