We had the good fortune of connecting with William Ruiz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi William, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe my success comes from genuinely loving my career. I truly enjoy helping people, and I’m transparent about what I charge. I also take pride in being readily available for my clients, no matter the time or day. My customers know they can reach me by text, phone call, or in person.

Being bilingual in English and Spanish allows me to explain insurance coverage and details clearly to a wide range of clients, which helps build trust and lasting relationships.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets me apart is that I’m a true local, family-focused businessman who is always available for my clients. I’m proud to be celebrating 14 years in business on November 1, 2025. I believe I’ve reached this milestone because I treat all my customers the same: with respect, honesty, and friendliness.

Running your own business is never easy — in fact, it only gets more challenging over time as I work to maintain the same level of service while getting busier. I’ve overcome obstacles by staying open-minded, adaptable, and willing to embrace evolving technology.

I want people to know that you can achieve anything if you’re willing to work hard. I was raised by a single mother of four, and we relied on food stamps and public assistance. But I always believed I could do something great. I had the vision and the courage to chase my dreams, and that determination made all the difference.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
San Diego offers endless options for dining and entertainment. For a night out, I love starting at Polite Provisions for craft cocktails, followed by dinner next door at Fortunate Son. We also enjoy Sunday happy hour at Harney Sushi, then a stroll through historic Old Town San Diego.

One of our favorite date nights is heading to Camino Riviera for Mexican food and tequila, then catching the latest country concert or a local comedy show in Downtown San Diego. Whether it’s food, music, or just exploring the city, San Diego never disappoints.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a huge shoutout to my mother, Elena Perez. She’s the reason I became an insurance agent — following in her footsteps has been one of the best decisions of my life.
