We had the good fortune of connecting with Will Concidine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Will, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Trying to run a high volume law office and finding time to spend with family is a hard balancing act. In the modern digital age clients have access to me all hours of the day and through multiple different mediums, so the hardest part for me is to turn that off for personal time. Early in my career, responding to calls and messages was always the priority and it did not matter if I was on vacation, camping, at the park with my daughter, or even out at dinner, I would still respond instantly to whatever messages I received.

Over the years, I learned that have to leave work at work sometimes. I have to have my own personal time. I have to make a conscious effort to set aside special time for family trips and vacations where we spend quality time together. I love the camping, walks on the beach, and trips to Disneyland so we try to mix in those sorts of activities as often as we can to spend quality time together. I have a daughter who just turned 5 and a baby boy who is five months old, so I try to do something special with each of them every day.

I still work at all hours, but I do so after the kids have gone to bed and after the vacation has ended. I want my time with the kids to be their special time. It is hard to figure out a proper balance sometimes as a lawyer because you are trying to provide the best customer service in helping your clients while at the same time being engaged with your family. I do not know if there is a perfect solution, but I know I have found the balance that works best for me

What should our readers know about your business?
Here at My Traffic Guys, we handle traffic tickets, DUI cases, criminal offenses, and auto accident cases that happen here in San Diego County. Over the past 15 years we have helped thousands of people on their cases. We are a small office that focuses on individual customer service and we believe that comes through on the hundreds of 5 star reviews we have on Yelp and Google. Whether it is making international world news handling the Google Glass case, representing a Heisman trophy winner, a NBA finals MVP, or our neighbors, we always provide the same level of representation. We truly love helping people and only want the best for our clients.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have been in San Diego since coming for law school in 2003. There are countless adventures to have in the county. Some of my favorite places to take friends who visit are the local beaches. A nice sunset stroll at Grandview, Beacons or along the coast in Solana Beach in North County are some of my favorites. Some of my other favorite spots are the San Diego Zoo or Safari Park, Coronado, The Cabrillo National Monument and Point Loma Lighthouse, Old Town and Petco Park if the Padres are playing.

If we are going out for drinks or dinner, I take friends to some of the local spots near where I live in Encinitas, like La Papagayo, Case de Bandini or Juanita’s for a burrito. We might also grab some Cardiff Crack (Burgundy Tri Tip Steak) from Seaside Market in Cardiff and throw it on the barbeque. If we are craving some pizza, we usually take friends to either the Solana Beach or Carlsbad Pizza Port locations for some great pizza and good beers.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a special thanks to my wife, Melissa, who puts up with the emails, calls, and texts at all hours and is so supportive of the hours and work that goes into running your own law office. I also want to thank my daughter, Mia, and son Owen, who have made me a father and the continue to make me a proud father every day in watching their achievements. I also want to thank my parents, Steve and Kathy, as they provided me with everything I needed growing up and along the way to get to where I am today–I could not have done it without them. I also need to thank my best friend and business partner, Gabriel, for all his help and encouragement along the way–sharing an office space these past few years has made going to work a joy. I also want to thank all those who have put their trust in me to represent them over the years–without them I could not have such a fulfilling career.
