We had the good fortune of connecting with Viktoria Talbot and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi viktoria, what makes you happy? Why?
I get so happy teaching yoga .

Seeing people not just come together in class, but form real friendships outside the room as well….
it fills my heart and reinforces the reason i love this practice and keep coming back to yoga again and again.

I am also incredibly lucky to have this job, really not a job, but a way of life and am able to meet and watch so many people feel good about, and look after themselves.

I am also happy watching my grandchildren practice yoga , even tho they don’t know what , why they are doing it, but it feels so fun.

I am happy to show my kids, not tell them , how to keep living a blessed and lucky life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think we are all a bit creative, some just tap into it more than others.
Every class i put together, starts with a Monday of music, theme, some jokes and a yoga flow that i work on, sometimes for 8 hours. I may not be at the computer or on my mat for the 8 hours, but all day and even during the week , I am tweaking the whole journey that i will be teaching that coming week.
It’s creating movements that open up peoples minds, bodies , but mainly there hearts. I
f their hearts are not a little more expanded by the end of class, that they don’t feel better about themselves and the people they will then come into contact with after class, then i haven’t done my job.

It wasn’t easy in the beginning, getting a teaching job took 12 months of hard work and low self worth and defeat, but i am certainly so glad i persisted. i Leared that you often don’t appreciate and easy victory, but you loooove the hard win. Which is why i take this job seriously and the lovely people that come to class, i truly appreciate their effort to get to that room and then connect with each other.
Yoga, hell everything is yoga and it is for everyone, not just the bendy flexy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I teach yoga at the Rady Shell each month on a Saturday, its a free class for anyone to come to, so i would start there. Then a walk thru La Jolla shores into La Jolla Farms estate down to the beach , back to the village in the shores for lunch at Piatti, a long lunch, its a big walk. Coffee at La Valencia hotel in the village of La Jolla.
Dinner would be at Cucina urbana in Hillcrest with a walk through balboa park across the bridge.
Sunday is the Hillcrest farmers market for produce and a bite to eat. I would have people over for sunday night dinner , eating all the fresh goodies and maybe a movie in my back yard when it got dark.
The week would be visiting Temecula for a wine afternoon, a visit to Big Bear , maybe stay over night at the Big Bear Chateau and a day on Coronado walking, lunching at The Dell and seeing the sunset from the beach.
We would go to Anna’s launderette for delicious ice cream in Normal Heights, after dinner at Wolf in the Woods in Mission hills and coffee at Bread and Cie

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The first person who comes to mind in supporting me, is my eldest daughter.
Many years ago when i had completed 4 yoga trainings and 750 hrs of teacher training , i couldn’t get a job teaching anywhere.
For 12 months i auditioned and was rejected.
We were on a holiday in Bali and i was complaining about how hard this whole process of auditioning and rejection was and that i was going to give it all up and she stopped me , looked me in the eye and said “mum you didn’t teach us to give up when things get difficult, then why are you ? keep trying, show me who you are, do this for you and then for us.”

When your child has to remind you to keep moving forward, you know you have to continue and that you can do whatever you really set your mind to, no matter how long it takes. It was a pivotal day on the beach for me and her that day.
