We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Ramos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Victoria, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have wanted to start my own business for as long as I can remember, as I feel working for myself, towards my dreams and goals is much more fulfilling and rewarding than working for a corporate company. We were all brought here to serve a purpose in this world and I believe mine is to share delicious vegan baked goods with high quality ingredients. Throughout my journey to starting my own business, I worked in local small businesses throughout San Diego which opened my eyes to how important it is to support each other’s passions and dreams. Each place I have worked at has taught me what it takes to run a successful business. From being a barista, to baking in kitchens in high volumes, to managing multiple cafes at a time, I always knew these opportunities were given to me for a reason. I am now able to apply each of these lessons to my future endeavors. Running a business is not easy but seeing my pastries in local cafes and hearing amazing feedback from clients, I know I’m doing something right. I believe my business will only go up from here!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is Sweets by Victoria which is an online based 100% vegan bakery currently ran out of my home kitchen as a cottage food operation. Ingredients play a major role in my baking, I love using organic, non-gmo, and soy free ingredients in all my baked goods. I offer delicious vegan + gluten free options as well. Such as, Strawberry Raspberry Oat Bars which I have to say are amazing and probably one of our best sellers, in addition to gluten free brownies & cookies that I started offering the beginning of this year. I am always looking to add options for everyone to enjoy. My pastries can be found in a few cafes here in San Diego which is one of the most exciting things happening for SBV right now! Every day offers new challenges and possible obstacles but they are all given to serve a purpose to learn and grow. The challenges I have mostly faced is believing in myself and my business, as I have days where I get down if I was not as busy as the day or week before but that is when I take a step back to reflect and see how far I have come in these last years, I have stepped out of my comfort zone and pushed myself to get where I currently am and I’m only going to continue to grow from here!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I have family or friends visiting I would definitely need to take them to the beach and be outside soaking up the sun as much as possible. I would take them to catch the sunset at Sunset Cliffs or while having a picnic at Kate Sessions park which is a beautiful view spot of all of San Diego. I love going to coffee shops so I would take them to a few of my favorite spots which are Vili’s Health Bar, Garden Coffee, and Influx to name a few. As for food I would take them to Donna Jean for some of the best vegan pizza, Bahn Thai for delicious yellow curry, and The Village for my favorite vegan Mexican food and sushi!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my loving and supporting family that continues believing in me and in my vision. To my siblings who motivate me with the success of their businesses, to my mom who has always believed in and supported me from the beginning, to my dad for creating beautiful signage for my events to my grandma and aunt who help me bake or box up orders when I’m in need of extra assistance, to my best friend that is always there when I need her emotional support. All of this would not be possible if it wasn’t for the extra help, love, and support I receive from all of them on the daily.
