Meet Victoria Passichenko | Portrait photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Passichenko and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Victoria, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born and raised in Kazakhstan, Central Asia. This is a multinational country, in which I have absorbed many different cultures and traditions. When people find out I am from Kazakhstan, it is hard for them to understand why I am not a Kazakh, but a Pole by nationality who speaks Russian. However, this is the norm for my homeland. I have been living in California for 10 years now, where I work as a portrait photographer. My background helps me to easily find common ground with a wide variety of people.


Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
For most shoots, I come up with the ideas myself and find all the materials to implement them. I am proud each of my projects is not like the previous one. Every time I shoot, I try new tricks, use new tools, and I like to surprise my viewers. More than 15 years of active photography I went to where am I now. And this is not counting my personal crisis lasting several years after I had my child. But it was this crisis that opened my second wind and now I feel so strong.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visiting, we would ride our bikes across the Golden Gate Bridge. In Sausalito we would have lunch at Arawan Thai Cuisine. From Sausalito we would take a ferry and return to sity by boat. One day we would definitely spend in the Archimedes Banya. It is a Russian bathhouse on the shores of the San Francisco Bay. Nowhere else in San Francisco Bay Area is there a true Russian bath with strong steam and a birch broom treatment.
