We had the good fortune of connecting with Veronica Denne and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Veronica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Both Jon and I, had successful corporate careers. We both were fortunate to have worked with talented people and had great mentors along the way. Over the years, Jon and I would talk about starting our own business and the things that were important to us. We had many ideas and business plans, but nothing came to fruition as Monday would roll around and we were on a plane headed to our next meeting. It wasn’t until Jon took the leap and decided if we don’t go for it, we’d never start our own business. We decided we would take all the skills and experience we had accumulated over the years and put them to work while focusing on producing products that we loved and would feel great about.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
LBE Design is a San Diego based company that produces premium quality planters, that are both beautiful and functional for indoor house plants. We are a wife and husband team and travel fanatics who love the enduring nature of quality and are suckers for good design. Through traveling and connecting with many people and cultures, we’ve come away with two revelations that shape our company: 1. The world is filled with talented individuals who are driven to create works of enduring beauty. 2. People everywhere are fundamentally more similar than dissimilar and share a desire to lead happy, productive and healthy lives. Drawing on these two guiding principles, we hatched LBE Design. Through the design and production of beautiful products, our company strives to celebrate global connectedness and provide opportunities for individuals to achieve their aspirations regardless of where they reside. We believe you deserve the option of purchasing products created with a focus on sustainability, designed with consciousness, and crafted with enduring quality.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We live in a fantastic place, Encinitas, and we love our community. Some of our favorite things to do: 1. Ride our bikes down Neptune and catch up with all the neighbors and their pups as we make our way to Moonlight Beach. 2. Head to Coffee Coffee for a cup of coffee 3. Lunch at Fish 101 4. Nothing beats the meditation gardens. The grounds and views are beautiful 5. Grab a beer at Regal Seagull 6. Sunset at Beacons 7. Taco Stand in DT Encinitas 8. Head to Sea Side Market for a Tri-tip sandwich 9. Hike Torrey Pines 10. Thai food from Birds Eye Kitchen

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are too many people to name who provided encouragement and support along the journey, but the biggest motivator for us were the critics who threw us some side eye and stated “planters… you’re quitting your jobs to sell planters?”. Our critics deserve the credit, as they provided us valuable motivation along the way, and lit a fire in our belly.
