We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Navarro and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vanessa, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
Out of all the things we teach our children on the daily, I believe that the most important thing I’ve done is teach them to always be kind. It all starts at home and we must set the example ourselves. This world can be very cruel, and we can make a difference by being kind. It can truly make someone’s day so much better, and it’s free. That’s the best part!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Growing up in a Mexican household, there was always good food around. Getting home to a hot meal made me feel good and loved. When I became pregnant at the age of 18 in 2011, I knew I wanted to learn more about cooking not just for me but for my husband and daughter. In 2019 I changed my Instagram handle to Lifewithvane and in that moment, I just knew something good was going to come out of it. I was excited and motivated. I decided to be more open and share more of my life with my followers. I began sharing more of my life as a mother, as a wife, as well as sharing recipes that I had learned throughout the years. To my surprise, many people enjoyed it and so I began making reels. Slowly but surely I started growing my social media following. I am so proud of how far I’ve come and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me! I believe that what sets me apart is that I stay true to myself. When you stay true to yourself and do it with love, you attract all the right people.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would have them visit La Jolla Beach & Sunset Cliffs for amazing views, especially for sunsets. As for food, I would say, Silverlake Ramen, Liberty Public Market (for all different kinds of foods to choose from!) and The Cottage in La Jolla for a nice breakfast. I’d also take them to Seaport Village, Petco Park, Little Italy/Gaslamp Quarter, & Old Town San Diego for awesome food, drinks, and music.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There is one person who has encouraged me throughout this whole journey, and that is my husband, my best friend, and my biggest supporter. When I felt like giving up he would remind me all the reasons of why I started. Of course, the negative comments would get to me in the beginning and I felt like giving up but he was there cheering me on and telling me to focus on the positive. I think that it all changed when I came to the realization that not everyone will enjoy my content and I am ok with that. Like I always say and will say it once again, as long as I help ONE person out there, that is more than enough for me. I am blessed to have a supportive husband who loves me for who I am and encourages me to keep going.
