We had the good fortune of connecting with Trevor Davis-Dressner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trevor, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea behind my finger surfing business started when I was a kid. I found myself sticking my hand out the window and feeling like I was surfing the wind. I remember using old playing cards and nickels that I had laying around and it amazed me how they would stick to my hand if I put my hand out the window due to the wind resistance. I was always fascinated by the concept. Around the time when COVID first hit, I found myself going on drives and dealing with boredom while on the car rides. I started to realize that whenever I was in a car with people, the ride would eventually get boring as we’d run out of activities to do. With both of these factors, I realized I could develop a product to quench the need of surfing the wind while simultaneously ending boredom during car rides hence coming up with best handmade finger surfboard!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
One of my proudest characteristics is my unique ability to problem solve. With sky riders, I’ve found it difficult to keep up inventory, clear legal issues, and handmake each individual sky rider even during busy seasons. With these problems, it’s caused me to efficiently come up with effective solutions to maintain development and manage the legality of the product. The main lesson this has all taught me, is if there is a problem, there is always a solution. If there’s any issue that I’ve dealt with, I’ve learned that there’s a solution in some way or another to all my business problems. One thing I want the world to know is that my brands end goal is to donate a portion of sales to cleaning and saving the oceans. I want to do more than just create a community of finger surfers!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being from Long Beach, there’s an endless list of fun stuff to do. If I were given a week to show my best friend the city, I’d hit 4key places. I’d first take my friend to the top of signal hill at sunset, and we’d watch the view from the best spot in Long Beach. Next I would take my friend to the marine stadium area. The water and park area is so beautiful and is a great place to hang out or have a picnic. Next, I’d take us to Arturo’s tacos food truck at the corner of long beach boulevard and PCH. They have the best al pastor tacos in long beach and for a phenomenal price as well. Lastly, I’d take us to the San Pedro cliffs. The cliffs are the most beautiful part of Southern California in my opinion and are a breathtaking view all the way up the coastline.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate some recognition to 3 main people. First, I would like to thank my parents for their constant support and encouragement to think big and not be afraid to take risks. I’ve had a lot of personal guidance from them and its made my journey possible. Next, I would like to thank a close friend and business supporter, Alex Ferrera. Ferrera from the start, has been a rock to my business. He’s provided me equipment and allowed me to have resources to create prototypes, and he’s been a great partner for inventory development and my business simply wouldn’t be possible without him. Lastly, I would like to thank my girlfriend Ivy Urbina for her constant support and actions to help further advance my business plans and personal development.
