We had the good fortune of connecting with Tejah Monae and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tejah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was to make a change, not just for myself but for like- minded Women like myself. Creating and marketing a safe space for women, directing and leading them towards the correct way on how to handle business efficiently, has made me so proud. Our growth as a group and me as an individual has kept me determined in my Faith and walk in my story. This has strengthened us all to stand up for ourselves, what we deserve, and what we stand for. Growing up and getting myself into the modeling industry as an independent model, I wish I would’ve had the proper direction. In the industry, women are taken advantage of because they aren’t represented in a safe space or manner, causing lost of direction in their career. My business is an establishment to create that safe space for Women and show them the respect they deserve. My vision encompasses and drives growth by captivating diversity.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

As a creative, I set myself apart by unapologetically being myself. When you have confidence and keep your head held high no matter what you been through, your strength shows inside and out. People respect and honor you for who you truly are and can accept you are different. I’m proud of myself because every time I fell, I got right back up. I never stopped staying devoted to my goals and what I stand for. Where I am today, took a lot of hard work. There were times I felt so alone, like I have no one and sometimes I still do. When my Granny passed, I was really heart broken and suffered a lot for a couple years. I almost lost myself but had to continue staying strong, I knew she would want that for me as well. Everyone has been through challenges and obstacles, but you have to learn how to not let that affect you and let it make you into an inspiration of overcoming anything you’re faced with. Life isn’t easy, try not to dwell on the negative rather focus on all things positive in your day to day life as a person.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

My favorite things to do is hike, workout, enjoy nature, hairstyling, go to events with creatives like myself, trips, concerts, and do things that heal my inner child or make me happy. I’m not as open as I was before, I always make sure to put myself in rooms with opportunities and be around people I can learn from, look up too, or whom are doing things like I myself am doing. I am very secluded but know how to have a good time when I am comfortable. I love being to myself mostly, that’s when I feel the safest at times.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

In the midst of it all, I would like to thank my Grandparents for being an inspiration in my life. Directing, guiding, and teaching me the proper ways to stand up for myself, believe in myself, and to be a leader not a follower in life. They never sugar coated reality with me. Ever since I was a kid, they’ve always treated me maturely in a way which has driven me to become who I am today. Have I made mistakes? Yes. Do mistakes make you? No. They’ve always truly believed in me, no matter if I was right or wrong, they seen growth and determination in me, they seen confidence, they seen a hard- worker. I’ve always stood out and never fitted in, I created a version of myself that no one can replicate. With all their advice, I made sure to listen and take it as a way to develop who I am. Although my Grandparents have been an inspiration in my life, God always comes first. He’s directed and guided me in my story as well because he’s the one who created my story, without God being who I am and overcoming obstacles wouldn’t be possible. Trials and tribulations have built who I am as a person, I never let them affect me negatively but surely let them make a positive impact in my life. I thank God everyday, for blessing me and calling me for his teaching’s.
